Gauteng High Court Orders Musa Khawula to Apologise and Pay Costs in Julius Malema Defamation Case The Gauteng High Court has ordered social media commentator Musa Khawula to retract defamatory statements about EFF leader Julius Malema and his wife, Mantoa Matlala Malema, and to pay the full costs of the application. In a judgment handed down today by Justice Wright in Case No. 2026-053903, the court declared publications made by Khawula on his X account (and other platforms) “unlawful and defamatory”. The statements concerned the marital status of Malema and his wife, with claims that the couple was separating or divorcing. Khawula’s original posts, made in late February 2026, alleged that “Julius Malema’s marriage is over as his wife Mantoa Matlala files for divorce.” He claimed the couple had married in December 2014 and that Mantoa Matlala “could only tolerate so much of his cheatings and decided to end their stressful marriage.” Khawula further suggested Malema had tried to bribe him to suppress the story and, even after the court application was filed, doubled down by posting: “Hi @Julius_S_Malema baby, thought you’d know that you aren’t getting no apology from me… Your close friends have repeatedly confirmed that your lil marriage is over, you are getting a divorce and I stand by that. Stop playing dress up.” The court order requires Khawula to: · Permanently retract the impugned statements within 24 hours of service of the order; · Publish an unconditional public apology on his X account (and distribute it to media outlets that repeated the claims) within the same timeframe; · Refrain from publishing any further similar allegations about the Malemas. Khawula was also directed to pay the applicants’ costs on the attorney-and-client scale, including the costs of two counsel where employed. The ruling follows an urgent application brought by Julius Malema (first applicant) and Mantoa Matlala Malema (second applicant) against Khawula. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) described the outcome as a victory for its president, labelling Khawula a “discredited social media commentator”.

Batho ba Hammanskraal, I am so deeply sorry for what happened yesterday. I was running late from an imbizo with informal traders and asked MMC Boshielo to start in the meantime. I was on my way when I was informed that it had to be adjourned for safety reasons. We will consult with colleagues in Hammanskraal to set another date. It wasn't out of disrespect at all. The traders' meeting ran long, and I couldn't leave it without properly adjourning it.

J. Malema v/s K. Kunene Court Matter: The legal team of julius Malema has removed the matter from the court roll which was supposed to be heard today on an urgent basis. Political robustness must be strengthened. I also heard that Julius Malema will be appearing before the court tomorrow for sentencing on the rifle matter. As a leader I DON'T wish anyone to go to prison including julius despite his insults to us. I wish him the best for tomorrow. Salute
