The Northern Cape Provincial Joint Structure (#PROVJOINTS), comprising of the #SAPS, government departments, municipalities, and other law enforcement and security stakeholders, wish to assure communities across the province that comprehensive operational plans are in place to ensure the safety and security of all residents ahead of the planned 30 June shutdown actions and any related activities.
The Provincial Joint Structure has been closely monitoring developments, including calls for protest action, public gatherings, and sentiments targeting foreign nationals. While the right to peaceful protest is protected by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, this right must be exercised within the confines of the law and should not infringe on the rights, safety, and dignity of others.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, together with all members of the PROVJOINTS, has directed that all operational deployments remain focused, intelligence-driven, and coordinated to maintain public order, prevent crime, and respond swiftly to any incidents that may threaten the safety of communities.
Law enforcement officers will be deployed strategically across identified areas to ensure visibility, monitor developments, and facilitate a safe environment for residents, businesses, road users, and visitors throughout the province.
The public is urged to remain calm, obtain information from credible sources, and are encouraged to work together with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities, acts of violence, or criminal behaviour to the relevant authorities.
The Northern Cape remains committed to promoting social cohesion, respect for human rights, and the rule of law.
The Provincial Joint Structure further calls on all residents to reject violence, hate speech, and actions that may create division within communities.
The safety and security of every person living in the Northern Cape remains a collective responsibility. The Provincial Joint Structures are ready and committed to ensuring that peace and stability is maintained before, during, and after the planned activities.

#sapsHQ [READ: BRIEFING NOTES BY THE ACTING NATIONAL POLICE COMMISSIONER, LT GEN PULENG DIMPANE DURING A MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT OF SANTACO, MR ABNER TSEBE] #SAPS Management convened a very important meeting with the President of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO), Mr Abner Tsebe, and his leadership collective as part of our preparations for the planned demonstrations on 30 June.
The purpose of this meeting was simple but important. We wanted to speak directly to the leadership of the taxi industry because of the important role they play in our country and the influence they have over millions of commuters and thousands of taxi operators.
Tonight, we have made a humble but firm request to SANTACO leadership.
• We have requested them to stand with law enforcement.
• We have requested them to stand with the people of South Africa.
• We have asked them to use their voice, influence and leadership to ensure that the taxi industry does not become part of any attempts to destabilise the country, disrupt economic activity or intimidate communities.
The taxi industry is the backbone of public transport in South Africa.
Every day, millions of people rely on taxis to get to work, school, hospitals and places of business. It is for this reason, that we are appealing to every taxi association, every taxi owner, every operator and every driver across the country to ensure that 30 June remains business as usual.
• We have appealed to them to keep transporting passengers.
• We have appealed to them to keep routes open.
• We appeal to them to reject any calls to block roads, intimidate commuters or disrupt public life.
Most importantly, we appeal to them not to allow criminal elements to misuse the taxi industry for unlawful purposes.
We have also requested SANTACO to add its powerful voice to the growing call for peace, restraint and respect for the rule of law.
The message we would like to hear from every taxi rank, every taxi association and every taxi operator is simple:
• No highway and road blockages.
• No intimidation.
• No violence.
• No destruction of property.
• No disruption of public transport.
We have appealed to the leadership of SANTACO to send a clear message throughout the taxi industry that there must be no violence in the name of the taxi industry.
It must be business as usual. Our economy must continue to function. Our people must continue to go to work. We know that the overwhelming majority of taxi operators are law-abiding citizens who work hard every day to provide an essential service.
We therefore urge them not to allow themselves to be drawn into activities that could place lives at risk or undermine the stability of the country.
The consequences of instability are felt most by ordinary South Africans.
• We have seen this before.
• When roads are blocked, workers cannot get to work.
• When transport is disrupted, learners cannot get to school.
• When businesses close, livelihoods are affected.
• When violence erupts, innocent people suffer.
That is why we are requesting SANTACO and the broader taxi industry to become active ambassadors for peace.
We are encouraged by the positive response we received from SANTACO leadership today and by their commitment to engage their structures throughout the country.
We believe the taxi industry has an important role to play in ensuring that calm prevails and that communities reject calls for violence and disorder.
Let me also reassure all South Africans that law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared.
We remind members of the public that the South African Police Service, together with our law enforcement partners, will be deployed throughout the country to ensure that public safety is maintained.
We will protect the constitutional rights of those who wish to protest peacefully and lawfully.
However, any attempts to block roads, intimidate commuters, damage infrastructure, disrupt public transport networks or engage in violence will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
Where criminal acts occur, our police are on standby.
We therefore call upon every taxi owner, every driver, every queue marshal, every association leader and every commuter to join us in ensuring that 30 June is remembered as a day of peace, responsibility and stability.
• Let us reject violence.
• Let us reject intimidation.
• Let us reject lawlessness.
• Let us keep South Africa moving. ME
