@CarlMalkin6 @NidgeHattersSK Schools will close on the day before or day after but it's summer right now so school is out. Other workers (like in customer support) either get a floating holiday, get paid overtime pay, or sometimes double pay.

@CarlMalkin6 @NidgeHattersSK So that's not true. The observance is either the Friday or the Monday if it falls on a weekend. However you are right that we don't get many holidays.. And that is stupid to think that July 4th makes anyone feel a certain way

@NidgeHattersSK He's probably upset one of the 6 public holidays Americans get falls on a Saturday this year. They don't get an extra day to make up for it being on the weekend. So they are screwed if July 4th, Christmas Day or New Year's Day fall on the weekend.

It's funny to see Americans misunderstand their own tipping system. Their misunderstanding of European objections to it is just an extension of that. No, mates, in an American restaurant, a tip is not a "reward for good service." The median annual earnings of US wait staff are about $33,000 (assuming full-time hours), and tips account for roughly 25% to 60% of that income. Without tips, they're nowhere near a livable wage. If you receive subpar service in a US restaurant and refuse to tip your server, you are not merely declining to give a bonus for good service, you are depriving them of a livable wage. For Americans, that's part of the culture: if you perform the duties outlined in your contract but fail to impress customers with constant refills and witty banter, you don't deserve a livable wage. Europeans go to restaurants to enjoy a nice night out, not to face moral dilemmas. To them, this system is simply cruel.

Airports have the US flag cos too many Americans didn't know they were the foreigners when at passport control. It's not importance, it's catering to your stupidity.

@jacobscheier I have been learning how to cope with panic attacks when people are late (it's a trigger for me). Trying your best to manage your conditions isn't ableist. It's thoughtfulness to those you interact with.

@deadlybossmods @discord_support @discord I should have said that I wrote something up with "BotGhost" since I'm not a coder and knew that I needed something specifically to work during onboarding. I hope that what you have coded works out for you. It definitely sucks and I wish Discord had better moderation for it.

We tried setting up something similar but none of public automod bots I tried find could really do it well. But earlier today we ended up just writing our own bot instead so we'll see how it goes. we already. had strict onboarding but most honeypot traps relied on bots posting in channels. These new ones don't post at all, they come in harvest userlist and go straight to DMs. they don't react to roles. and onboarding as stupid as it's designed REQUIRES you to have public channels everyone has read/write permission to, so if bots didn't react they weren't stopped. so I needed a automod that autobanned bots who did onboarding incorrectly on join, without a posting or reacting first honeypot. we'll see how it goes.

Due to @discord_support @discord continued failure to provide even a shred of actual security on their platform. DBMs discord will be going fully private (delisted from public directory, vanity link shut down, no longer allowing new members to join) in near future. I've tried everything to improve security against bots and malicious attacks but discords tools not only don't work, they're often COMPLETELY broken. I have DMs disabled on server and bots still spam users in DMs, because the DM disable security feature doesn't actually work. Discord MANDATES that you must have at least ONE channel with full "everyone" access on a public server with onboarding, which gives bots COMPLETE access to userlist regardless if you grant them ANY channel permissions Servers don't have control over DM permissions (Besides the non working temporary disable). Bots join on mass using invite link exploits that let them use expired/long deleted invite links. Automod and mod bots are again useless against the current DM spamming bots. So, until such a time when discored actually gets their act together, DBMs Discord server will remain private and locked down starting sometime in the coming days. This doesn't mean you won't be able to get support for DBM, you'll just need to do it using github issues trackers found here: github.com/DeadlyBossMods
