@jacobscheier

Part of that weird mentally ill cult that reads scientific studies and believes eugenics is bad. Blocked by Vinay Prasad. #WearAMask #FreePalestine.

I really do wonder how these (esp leftist) covid denialists are navigating long covid, esp if their health is in a downward spiral. Because I know not all of them are in that position, but the number can't be zero. I wonder how long the cognitive dissonance can hold up.

@SeraJadeAtPSA @n_e_rd @labormilitancy @katewillett So wait. Does that now apply to every other resource that Cuba is short on? Toothbrushes? Medicine? Other home care products that you bring to travel with you? Are you saying that the American travelers are supposed to come there bare bones and not take care of themselves?

The Cuban gov’t has limited resources, but more go to medical care than anything else. Doctors make house calls. All medical treatment is free. Disabled adults and children who need full time care get it, for free. “The Cuban gov’t has abandoned disabled people” is very false.
antizionist Jew (ML)@BethxMitch

Taylor Lorenz declares Cuba has abandoned disabled people. Cuba, globally recognized for its success in fighting COVID through homegrown vaccines, easy access to efficient neighborhood clinics, 90% coverage by 2021. Taylor Lorenz is so unserious worse, bad faithing Cuba.

Everyone critical of you is a Fed. It's just a truism you have to accept. Disabled ppl, chronically ill pp, your cat: Fed, Fed, Fed. I'm definitely a Fed. I know it's very un-Fed like to announce you are, indeed, a Fed but that is part of the OP, obvs.

@null_nullspace @n_e_rd I agree that it's weird that they single out Cuba because they think this about most countries, but yeah, they do think that about Cuba specifically somehow. I guess they think Cuba extra defeated it or something.

Do people think Cuba defeated COVID? Like it’s a problem they solved for all time. Is that a thing people like this sophist believe?

Hey leftists, it’s ok to discuss disagreements about strategy, but if you say people who take COVID precautions: - are too scared to leave the house - demand that everyone to mask 24/7 - are terrified of a just a "cold" You are using far right anti-science talking points.

@jacobscheier this is exactly why i can’t really feel that bad for the people im seeing who attended the events who WERENT influencers, trying to convince everyone that there were in fact healthcare workers, humanitarian workers, etc because unfortunately the influencers who attended took over

It's a good point. Celebrity Activism is a problem - influencers became THE story. The left already knew about the conditions in Cuba and for regular ppl it just looks like Hisan Piker put on a concert. The action (except for lack of masking) was good, the optics were not.
Kaleji@residentJihadi

This entire thread and the replies is stupid. There was no need for hundreds of "influencers", with no discernible skills that the Cuban people may need to go there. 10% of the people would have sufficed. Their weight displaced more aid that could have been on the boat/planes

@abbymachines I hope to be wrong, but it seems cyclical to me. There is a rupture that exposes the need for masking (high covid cases in the summer or the need for masks in Cuba) but it soon fizzles. As soon those rupturing moments pass, ppl forget about covid again and resume 'normalcy'

i do anticipate we're going to see more and more people come around on masks & covid mitigation. and many (though not all) of those people will never apologize for spending years ignoring and belittling the people who tried to get them to care

@IrateMaxwell Disabilty justice leftists focus criticism on other left because we think maybe you can be reached based are shared (or ought to be) principles. We are ALSO the left. Hope that helps

Over 99% of people don't mask in public since like 2021, but for some reason Taylor Lorenz and others like her always target DSA meetings, union drives, aid flotillas, or any action by leftists who aren't too scared to leave their house for these callouts. An interesting pattern.

If ya wanna help with that, my Venmo is James-Ray-24, and if you’re a mask bloc I’m gonna try to set something up. Think we can genuinely make it happen they only need 40,000 masks. It’s crazy but like we really can make a massive (non-negative) impact if we want to.

Want to clarify for a second that I was one of these people, but in the spirit of engaging with critique I spoke with medical students in cuba and when it came up had them walk me through it all. They cited the same fears of disease spread and specifically requested masks.
Street Medic@RndmStreetMedic

Loving the people who want to argue with me about the risks of spreading disease being okay because a country has good hospital systems and "lots of tourism" and that they're entirely immune to the impacts of an energy embargo and medical infrastructural strain.
