@father_rmv “When people tell you that Christianity must be modern and follow the spirit of the time, what do they say? “Follow the crowd” ... That's why I think we must refrain from following that spirit and listening to these voices, however pious they sound" (Rene Girard)

@melodymlyons @RealMattFradd The text reads as if she did not want to be involved in polemics, rather than as if she believed communion in the hand is problematic. I have private opinions that I would disapprove of if ever made public, too. At least until I am long gone.

The Matt Fradd clip of the priest talking about Mother Teresa highlights the danger inherent in content creation. @RealMattFradd should have edited it out as harmful (and debunked) gossip. The priest interviewed has put everyone in a terrible position: either Mother and her beautiful sisters were liars... or he is. Another alternative is possible I suppose but hardly helps. Golly what a disaster. The facts: This story about Mother was circulating some years ago as well and was debunked by her order. She allowed her sisters to receive in the hand because the Church permitted it. In addition to that plain fact, Mother regularly spoke firmly in the language of absolutes about evil. The central message of her public life was that the greatest evils were indifference, lack of love, and abortion. Mother wanted us to focus on that message. The Church canonized her with that message at the forefront. We should ignore the podcast gossip and maybe take the opportunity to read and listen and contemplate what Mother wanted most for us to know.

@LearKentFool @SeamusMickgill @CraigOnan This is a real unaltered photo. It is known that she preferred receiving on the tongue. It is also known that she allowed it in the hand for her sisters. Assuming the best does not mean that we have to ignore what is real.

You need to work on your understanding and jumping to conclusions. It's not good for your soul: I mentioned this in a broadcast talk that was widely interpreted as Mother’s disapproval of Communion in the hand. This distressed her since the bishops had conceded both forms. She always received on the tongue and I have a photograph of me giving her Communion with the late Cardinal Mayer in Rome—he administering the Host and I with the Precious Blood as she often received both species. It may be that Communion on the tongue better avoids profanation especially in urban churches where there are many anonymous people who might abuse the Sacrament. But Mother did not want to be invoked in polemics. No sentimentalist, she ordered me to write a correction for a newspaper that had reported that she opposed Communion in the hand. I told her that I would “pray and then write” to which she replied like a Marine sergeant: “No! We need this right away! I pray! You write!” crisismagazine.com/opinion/memori…

while she frequently did receive on the tongue, this picture seems to demonstrate this priest may not be telling the truth. also she said frequently the greatest sin is to not love God, and to not allow oneself to he loved by Him

@SlowpokeCon @FrHarrison Maybe she changed her opinion in between the photos and speaking with Fr P. Why not? Why call him a liar must be the first thing you do?

@hf_222222 It is also a fact that hunger is a social problem and not a food production problem. There is enough food, but men just do not know how to distribute.

@frjoshjohnson @RealMattFradd Yet, the Church discerned out of this practice for centuries, only to return after the wild, weird 1960s.

The 2nd century, Bishop Dionysius said: “This man… stood before the table & extended his hands to accept the holy food; he received it... partaking in the Body and Blood of the Lord...” The 4th century, St. Cyril said: “When you approach… w/ your left hand make a throne for your right hand since you are to receive the King. In the hollow of your hand receive the Body of Christ & say, ‘Amen’.”

Most conservative, orthodox young people do NOT assume the United States is the good guy. Nor should they. This, I think, is one of the biggest generational divides.

Dear American Conservative friends: Yes, the Canadian government has some wackos in it, and there is plenty to ridicule. However, maybe cool it on the "Canada is lost" rhetoric until you get that sorceress out of the White House and Trump stops depicting himself as Jesus. 😊

@emzanotti Is he under the Bishop of Nashville? I have no problem with him giving his opinion and stuff, but his speaking in the name of the Church or the Pope is getting out of hand...

This is the problem with the Pope stuff. There are bad players on all sides. Chris Hale is an activist, not a journalist, and he deliberately doesn’t play by the rules. He senses a rift and is looking to exploit it.
Greg Price@greg_price11

You are such a despicable liar. The grant was cancelled two weeks ago-- before President Trump's post about the Pope. And it was cancelled because the border is now secure and unaccompanied children aren't being trafficked into our country anymore.

For every public talk I give in a far away place my good wife is tending a homestead and a farm house full of kids solo. While her work is quiet and in the privacy of our home it is absolutely critical for the Catholic Land Movement to grow in the way that it is. Good to be back home with her. May God bless all the good wives, tending hearth and home.

When I wrote that Aquinas views all war as evil and JWT, for him (and the tradition), is an attempt to preserve as many goods as possible in a bad situation, people got really mad. Wait until they read what Augustine has to say about it. Aquinas is a warmonger by comparison.
Jason Blakely@jasonwblakely

I've taught Augustine's view of just war for over a decade. Not only has the VP failed to grapple with its basic features but he is missing something essential: for Augustine pacifism (Christ's own witness) is the most perfect fulfillment of conduct in any kind of human conflict.

@HonorAndDaring 1. I'm skeptical Iran is actually about to make a nuclear weapon. There are natural incentives to lie for some actors. Also, even if they did have a nuclear weapon, are they more likely to use it than say North Korea? I don't think so. Their country would be glassed by Israel

Where would you suggest a young, Catholic family should move to in 2026? Priorities: access to reverent liturgy (TLM preferred, Divine Liturgy); Catholic classical education; strong job market (in case remote work isn't possible); safe; affordable. List your suggestions below⬇️

The absurdity that some fat, dumb and happy committee of Bishops whose only qualifications are acting as secretaries to an aging epicurean Cardinal can strike off the canonization of someone like Fr. Walter Ciszek (who celebrated Divine Liturgy secretly in the Soviet gulags). Bourgeois institutionalization of religion of the very worst kind. This is why, historically, many became Protestant. And why some, like me, are esoteric (free-thinking) Catholics. The clergy are often only good for the sacraments. And mediocre at everything else.
