@LdstoCatholic

Former LDS. Followed failed truth claims into apostolic Church Fathers and found no great apostasy. The Church Christ founded still exists. Sharing my journey.

I was LDS most of my life. High school seminary, mission, temple marriage, Young Men’s president, Elders quorum president, Gospel Doctrine teacher, other callings over the years. So when I talk about LDS truth claims, I’m not coming at this from the outside.

Glad you have solid experiences. I’ll state that your assessment of those that leave is too binary and ignorant. Branch out and talk to more folks, especially those of us that are not attacking the church, are grateful for our experience in it, and are confident in our faith. God 100% loves you and I have no doubt has guided you in your life and I have zero doubt that you have many experiences feeling His love and Hand in your life. Keep on keeping on.

@LdstoCatholic @RykerJackson97 81 year old 63 year convert here. My experience is that people who leave never developed the sort of personal relationship with the Savior that LDS doctrines and ordinances facilitate. And my conversion and my innumerable experiences exercising the priesthood are undeniable.

This church at one point could claim to be Christian, long ago, but I contend that once you begin flying a gay flag and sermons are about gay rights you no longer are a Christian church. They charge to go in and walk around, which makes sense for a faltering religion. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception doesn’t charge.

@ThoughtfulSaint Keep reading the apostolic fathers, Jacob. You’ll get there. Just keep reading, brother.

Kind of sounds like 3 degrees of glory. ——— Irenaeus- Against Heresies (Book V, Chapter 36) 2. [They say, moreover], that there is this distinction between the habitation of those who produce an hundred-fold, and that of those who produce sixty-fold, and that of those who produce thirty-fold: for the first will be taken up into the heavens, the second will dwell in paradise, the last will inhabit the city; and that was on this account the Lord declared, “In My Father's house are many mansions.” The presbyters, the disciples of the apostles, affirm that this is the gradation and arrangement of those who are saved, and that they advance through steps of this nature; also that they ascend through the Spirit to the Son, and through the Son to the Father

@PopePiusIXStan The creeds are just one of the reasons given for not joining any of them. Besides, I'm just saying the Church will never adopt the Nicene Creed (or any of the others).

@PopePiusIXStan The father having a physical body of flesh and bone as tangible as man’s needs to be dropped. If the father is a spirit as Joseph Smith said in the Lectures on Faith then we’re good.

@Primary_Pianist Accurate. The “demonic” narrative that’s abundant in many circles is silly IMO. There’s no need for it either. But it’s the laziest summary for those that don’t want to truly study the truth claims, LDS history, and LDS theology.

There’s a significant difference between saying: “I believe Joseph Smith was mistaken.” and “A demon gave Joseph Smith his beliefs.” The first is a theological disagreement. The second is demonization. History is full of Christians labeling other Christians, Jews, and religious minorities as agents of Satan. It rarely leads anywhere good. If you think the creeds are true, defend the creeds. If you think Joseph Smith was wrong, make your case. But telling millions of people who worship Jesus Christ, pray to God, read scripture, raise families, serve missions, and try to follow their conscience that their faith comes from demons isn’t an argument. It’s a way of avoiding one. You don’t have to agree with me to treat me like a fellow human being. Religious disagreement is healthy. Religious demonization is dangerous.
David@residentreformr

A demon told your leader creeds are an abomination? Sounds like we should double down on the creeds..

@LdstoCatholic @RykerJackson97 FYI "Jesus the Christ" By Talmage is not exactly a new book (1915: good read), and Ryker's brief summary is in alignment with it. Reiterations in conference also align.

@LdstoCatholic @RykerJackson97 It was in Gethsemane when the weight of all the sins of the world settled upon him. This was so extreme and excruciating that he asked the apostles to assist him and an angel had to be dispatched to strengthen him. So take it easy on your sacrilege.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have instructed hundreds of people (mostly LDS) on: - The Catechism - Our view of the Trinity - The Rosary (we've done the Rosary daily) - Intercession - Purgatory - The Eucharist - Eucharistic Adoration - Apostolic succession - Vatican II - Sedevacantism ... and several other Catechistic topics that I can't think of at the moment.

@realDrTT Spiritual work of mercy - instruct the ignorant and counsel the doubtful. You can love LDS while still being completely truthful with them. It is not gatekeeping to point out false religion.

@RigdonNancy3 A major issue with LDS structure is zero infallibility. It’s like nailing jello to the wall. Coffee is such a cultural issue it’s hilarious to me. And the energy drink and soda hypocrisy is amazing. God speed

What am I missing? We are supposed to listen to prophets unless they say something we don’t like? And when they say something we like, we listen to them even though we know they make mistakes? Seems like some members just make it up as they go. 🤷‍♀️
Nancy Rigdon@RigdonNancy3

@OhThats_Good @SSD_2X @sister_slay So you cite D&C 89 but don’t believe it. Prophet are fallible. Canonized scripture trumps words of a fallible man. If they wanted to canonize the words of the prophet, they could.

@realDrTT This book was incredible for me to put together the puzzle of The Mass. I contend that for LDS members it would resonate since their high liturgy is in the temple and they can appreciate and likely fall in love with The Mass once they learn the symbolism.

@LdstoCatholic -one of my first sessions I had a LDS member ask me what I would recommend for those who are interested in Catholicism to read and I pointed them directly to the catechism and I do believe that a few people have picked up the catechism
