UPDATE:
Two men from Parkwood in Cape Town have been arrested after robbing an e-hailing driver, in a case that shows how quickly crime suspects can be traced when the public works together and evidence is shared responsibly.
The suspects were captured on a dash camera during the robbery, and the footage rapidly went viral across social media platforms.
Within hours, community members recognised the men, shared key information, and helped authorities identify and locate them.
They were arrested this afternoon.
Reports indicate the suspects were assaulted by community members before police intervention.
This incident highlights the growing role of technology in fighting crime.
Dashcams, CCTV cameras, tracking devices and cellphone footage are becoming powerful tools in identifying criminals, confirming timelines and strengthening investigations.
Criminals increasingly leave a digital trail.
It also shows the value of active communities. When residents share verified information, report suspects, provide names, addresses, vehicle details or movements, police investigations can move far faster.
Public cooperation often becomes the difference between a suspect escaping and being arrested.
The message is clear: criminals should know that cameras are watching, communities are alert, and evidence can spread in minutes.
Citizens can play a major role in fighting crime by reporting information, preserving footage, and supporting lawful arrests.
