In 2020 I was offered a Shell job on Sakhalin Island, Russia - the highest salary I’ve ever been offered, even to this day. I turned it down because it felt way too isolated. People describe it as a remote, harsh place: long dark winters, limited flights out, and a small expat bubble in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Beautiful nature (whales, hiking, volcanoes) but many call the city boring and note the heavy isolation can lead to loneliness and depression for some foreigners. I think my gut was right on that one. How much per year would you work here for? I will screenshot and post my salary offer in the comments later.

If we see food prices and electric bills starting to rise over the summer, it likely won't be because of inflation, policy, or who the President is. It will have everything to do with water. We are possibly at the beginning of a megadrought cycle that could change America fast. Modern society was built during a relatively wet period, where water was abundant. But we could be returning to a very dry period like the drought of 1610. Prepare now. Stock food. Grow some if you can.

@elonmusk Pay MARRIED couples 100k cash directly for every new, non-anchor baby, child birth. It is the only way, unless you want to continue importing single welfare moms from third world shitholes that will produce low IQ dependents.

@MatthewBerman America should stop worrying about exporting AI. We should focus on Space, a race we can actually win. You can’t just print energy-flux-density out of thin air. The anti-nuclear movement really wrecked the U.S., much like China’s one child policy severely damaged them.

@michaelapuscar @OGSpiceGhost @HealthRanger @grok The U.S. has free healthcare for children until 18, food stamps, WIC, large(r) tax credits, section 8, and we still have to import third world garbage while feigning dislike for it. China hasn’t even tried much of this yet, especially for the degree western nations have.

Americans need to admit: China is kicking our ass in education, technology, manufacturing, industry, innovation, robotics, engineering and even AI. How did this happen? How could America fall so far from the #1 position we once occupied?

Oh wow - only now do I see how the flywheel works. Only NOW do I really see what Jensen meant. The other model providers (Kimi, GLM, Xiaomi) haven't yet committed to Ascend, and are still optimized for inference on CUDA/Nvidia. Why wouldn't they be? Nvidia is the dominant ecosystem, and Huawei is a competitor in many ways. But if the compute infrastructure at the hyperscalers become dominated by Ascend GPUs - then the other model providers will have a massive incentive to switch over. Otherwise, they become compute-deprived (there aren't more Nvidia GPUs coming), and unable to service the massive local, mainland market. Once the tipping point is crossed.. it's not just Deepseek + Huawei, it will be all of the Chinese open source models + Huawei.
David Lee@DavidLe76335983

Trump 1.0 saw the start of sanction against Huawei Biden tightened sanction banning ASML from selling EUV to China Trump 2.0 continued to ban Nvidia AI chips export to China With more challenges, Chinese companies achieved more breakthrough and localize chip supply chain domestically. Messages from Chinese govt is clear, US suppliers are not reliable, buy everything domestically. US companies such as Nvidia, Applied Materials, Micron, etc , lost Chinese market for good

@ShangguanJiewen @TheEconomist It should be renamed The Monetarist. City of London/Wallstreet hate the way China deploys credit, acts protectionist, and fixed its exchange rates. Which is why war is inevitable.

Don't fool yourself, the RMB is just another crappy fiat currency. It's not backed by gold or silver and there are strict currency controls. And I started and sold a company in China - true story, they literally sent guys in black suits to swap out our router so they could steal our IP. We live under a false paradigm where there is always a transition of power. Spanish to the French to the Dutch to the Brits to the US then to China. But it doesn't always have to go that way. China is a demographic time bomb and is just as likely to collapse as the US. The best historical comparison is the Bronze Age collapse. A world with no great power. That's where we're headed.

Is this post true? I have been around the block somewhat, and IMO, China is up there if you are an expat - definately the top ten. But it's not the best. There are many pros about China; the tech here is unsurpassed, the Chinese have cornered this market. Its super safe, very cheap for expats, the people are friendly (depsite the anti-China bullsh$t) you read on X, the accomdation is good - western style and mostly affordable for what you can get. You can travel within China very cheaply, the trains are great. The food options are good and big cities are on par with cities like Bangkok & Singapore - lots of international food available. The work environment is good, you are treated respectfully, the salaries are generous. All in all it's great. But one country offers more; and that's Thailand. It's hard to explain why Thailand is the destination to be in one post. You need to have been there, lived there to understand it's attraction. But for now Thailand is still the undisputeable king of Asia. But Vietnam is hot on its tail by many accounts due to just how cheap it is - we will see. What do you think?

@michaelapuscar @HealthRanger The most valuable thing that China “stole” was the American Credit System as defined by Hamilton. The U.S. is slave to the British Monetarist system post-Nixon.

Who cares, Mike? What's your obsession with China and the CCP? The US is under the thumb of globalists and the Epstein class. They've made bad decisions for decades. But China has its own problems. It is a demographic time bomb. People live under a social credit system. Their system encourages obedience and not innovation. But hey, you and Klaus Schwab agree - he called China the model that the world should follow. Never thought I'd see the day when @HealthRanger is repeating WEF talking points. Your show has become China worship slop. Are you on the CCP payroll now? China has passed the US, yes. But that doesn't make them the model to follow. If the US could become a free market economy and break free of the Epstein class, it would easily overtake China. As a good Chinese friend once said to me: "In the US, you elect a president. In China, we look for an emperor."
