@benwfreeman1 37 of the top 50 markets in all-time volume on Kalshi are sports, and that's counting Super Bowl halftime show markets as non-sports.
English

I know a lot of people try to say Kalshi is mostly sports, but that’s mainly due to the frequency of sporting events relative to non-sports events (e.g., elections, award shows, SOTU). Kalshi’s biggest markets are non-sports.
For example, of the top 3 biggest markets in Kalshi history, only 1 was sports:
1. 2024 Presidential Election ($536M)
2. Super Bowl LX ($359M)
3. Trump’s next Fed Chair ($217M)

@DustinGouker the reason casinos don't have windows is because they don't want customers to know what time of day it is... so you don't leave, not so you can't see in

What are they even talking about? Windows?
Coalition for Prediction Markets@PredictAction
Casinos don't have windows for a reason. This is a straightforward debate: Monopoly vs. Competition. Our member companies believe consumers should be able to decide for themselves if they want to trade on legally regulated markets.

Tulsi out by 12/31 seems like an interesting idea in the land of prediction markets

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

I've seen many angry tweets from film lovers and industry types complaining about people betting on these awards. That's not exactly surprising considering that left leaning political circles generally hate the gamble-on-everything culture that's emerged, but I do think it's short sighted.
Hollywood is facing it's latest existential crisis, and the awards have been losing relevance and cache for years. I think anything that gets people engaged and excited about movies and these award shows is good for the industry, and I've never seen so much debate about these subjects on my timeline.
Is gambling on everything nihilistic and likely to produce loads of problem gamblers? Of course. But the die is cast in America, and nothing's changing so long as the presidents son sits on the board of Polymarket. And while I don't think the awards should put the odds on the screen like the Golden Globes did, people betting on this stuff drives interest. Take it where you can get it.

Saw all 10 films nominated for Best Picture this year; first let’s talk art, then gambling. I think this was a great year for movies, and enjoyed all 10 of these. Here’s my rankings:
1. One Battle After Another
2. Hamnet
3. Sinners
4. Secret Agent
5. Marty Supreme
6. Frankenstein
7. Bugonia
8. Sentimental Value
9. Train Dreams
10. F1
My hottest takes are having Hamnet at two (best third act of any movie this year) and Frankenstein at six (I just love Guillermo Del Toro and his world building).
Now, let’s get into how to bet on The Oscar’s tomorrow…
