Sal Khan was one of the first people on Earth to see GPT-4. OpenAI called him in the summer of 2022, months before ChatGPT existed, and showed him what was coming. He couldn’t sleep that weekend. By March 2023, Khan Academy launched Khanmigo, an AI tutor built on GPT-4, the same day OpenAI unveiled the model to the public. They were a launch partner. While every other education company was figuring out what ChatGPT meant for them, Khan Academy had already been building for seven months. The “obsolete” platform now has 120 million yearly learners. Khanmigo, their AI tutor, grew 731% year over year in the 2024-25 school year, reaching 2 million users. In classrooms alone, adoption went from 40,000 students to 700,000 in a single year, with projections past 1 million for 2025-26. Their teacher tools are free in over 70 countries. In January 2026, Khan Academy signed a deal with Google to put Gemini (Google’s AI) into new Writing Coach and Reading Coach tools for middle and high schoolers. They’re now working with both OpenAI and Google. A peer-reviewed study published in PNAS (one of the top scientific journals in the world) in January 2026, with researchers from Stanford and the University of Toronto, found that more Khan Academy usage is directly linked to higher student test scores. Sal Khan wrote a whole book in 2024 called “Brave New Words” arguing AI would save education. Sam Altman wrote a blurb for it. His TED Talk making the same argument was one of the 10 most-watched of 2023. In October 2025, he was named TED’s “vision steward.” Khan Academy is now the AI education company. That 731% growth happened while students spent 7.7 billion minutes learning on the platform in 2025.

The saddest thing about all the AI stuff is that it’s rendered the Khan Academy guy’s life’s work totally obsolete

Claude Cowork is mind-blowing. I still cannot believe you can do this on your phone and then come back to your computer to a complete report on the best plane tickets to buy. I wonder where we'll be by the end of the year.

Isn't it completely INSANE that we're in the 21st century and a handful of demented geriatric freaks can literally ruin everything for everyone else on the entire planet? How and when are we going to stop this?

My new rank for how I'm using models: - GPT 5.4 Mini for edits and dumb work, it's fast and works most times. If it fails, I can fix it, and in the second round, I get the cache discount. I use it the same way Cursor users use Composer. - GPT 5.3 Codex for when I start the work in Codex, most times I start the work in ChatGPT and copy the output to my worker model. - GPT 5.4 when I need a bit more power. 5.4 is a bit more expensive than 5.3 Codex, so I gravitate to Codex and Mini more now. Gemini CLI team is signalling that the free lunch is over, so I'll need to get a Pro account, meh, it's whatever. I did like 3 Flash as my worker, but on free accounts, it's not worth it anymore, you get maybe 4 big tasks in before you're out. I think the token kindness has moved over to paid users; I get why. Gemini had the most token abuse. We have zero Claude in my workflow 😭 Evil has lost. I repeat, Evil has lost. This might change when new Ant models arrive.

🚨Breaking: Someone just built an AI sprite sheet generator for 2D game characters and it's actually impressive. It's called Sprite Sheet Creator. And it's not just an image generator. It's a full pipeline -- text prompt to animated game-ready character -- with walk cycles, jump animations, attack sequences, and a live sandbox to test everything before you export. Here's what this thing does: → Generate a pixel art character from any text description → Auto-creates a 6-frame walk cycle sprite sheet (2x3 grid) → Auto-creates a 4-frame jump animation (2x2 grid) → Auto-creates a 4-frame attack animation -- AI picks the style → Removes backgrounds automatically for clean transparent sprites → Adjustable grid dividers for precise frame cropping → Preview animations at adjustable FPS before exporting → Drop your character into a parallax side-scroller sandbox to test it live Here's the wildest part: Indie game devs spend hours commissioning sprite sheets or hand-pixeling walk cycles frame by frame. This does it in a text prompt. Type a character description. Get a game-ready animated sprite sheet with walk, jump, and attack -- ready to drop into Unity, Godot, or whatever engine you're using. Built with fal.ai and Next.js. Runs locally in minutes. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)

i still don't understand the attachment people have to LLMs it is a computer, not a friend. for those who missed the older models in this way, it seems many are unhappy with openai's current direction i need a research assistant, so i don't care much about that

the smartest aeo/geo companies are using perplexity’s search api like a super-weapon they realize you can actually see what is getting ranked and retrieved by LLMs at mass-scale (200m+ daily perplexity queries) vs prompting llms to try to get answers this is real alpha

Today, we’re launching a new way to create with AI. With OpenArt Worlds, you can generate a fully navigable 3D environment from a single prompt or image, step inside it, and capture shots exactly the way you envision them. No more starting over. No more inconsistent scenes. You build the world once - and create inside it. • Move through your scene freely • Find your angles • Add characters and elements • Capture production-ready shots

Thank you Jensen and NVIDIA! She’s a real beauty! I was told I’d be getting a secret gift, with a hint that it requires 20 amps. (So I knew it had to be good). She’ll make for a beautiful, spacious home for my Dobby the House Elf claw, among lots of other tinkering, thank you!!

A big story that most people are missing in the AI race for the consumer (ChatGPT vs Claude) is ads. Right now, most consumer AI revenue is coming from power users who are willing to pay high cost subscriptions. This currently skews positive for products like Claude - but this will not be the end state. Google makes ~$460/ user/year in the U.S., mostly on ads. Meta makes around ~$250. I would argue ChatGPT’s ad-based ARPUs will be even higher as they will ultimately have deeper / more frequent user engagement. Even at the $460 level - monetizing everyone in the U.S. via ads is $152 billion in annual revenue. By contrast, if you’re able to monetize even 5% of the population on a $200/month subscription (which is a stretch!), that’s only $40 billion 🤔 I suspect this will be even more drastic outside the U.S. where users are even less willing or able to pay directly for subscriptions. And, the earliest data from a very small rollout shows ChatGPT ads are already outperforming Meta in effectiveness - this just gets better over time. TL;DR - I would not count ChatGPT out on consumer AI revenue. Once ads start working, that can quickly become a massive machine.
Neil Patel@neilpatel

This is how ChatGPT ads are performing. The data is only from 5 businesses, but these businesses also run Google and Meta ads. Compared to Meta, ChatGPT's lead quality is roughly 256% higher. On the flip side, lead quality is 49% lower than Google's. But on the bright side, due to ad costs, it's substantially cheaper from a CPA perspective than Meta and Google.
