Today marks 84 years since the formation of the Glider Pilot Regiment, the first unit of Britain's wartime Army Air Corps. Although short-lived in years, the Regiment accrued numerous battle honours and an untarnished reputation in the air and on the ground.

We have had our first set of items purchased from the Amazon wish list. Thank you!! Paper, card and scissors are essentials that we use every single year so these will make a huge difference and are already being factored into our Christmas Craft. @armyflying

Dr Helen Fry | WWII Historian
Elsie Maréchal, a 16-year-old Allied secret agent, heroically rescued hundreds of Allied airmen before being betrayed. In a clandestine prison in Brussels, beneath a portrait of Luftwaffe chief Hermann Göring, Gestapo officers brutally beat Elsie with truncheons, leaving her body covered in bruises. Despite the relentless assaults across her back—administered in shifts by Gestapo interrogators, often for hours until she collapsed—Elsie steadfastly clung to her cover story to shield her network, never wavering in her responses. Her strength ebbed dangerously low, yet she refused to reveal a single name. Her father, Georges, perished in captivity, but Elsie and her English mother endured three gruelling years of cruelty and forced labour at the notorious Ravensbrück concentration camp in northern Germany, where around 50,000 women lost their lives. Elsie survived emerged as a quiet yet remarkable heroine of the Second World War.

Happy World Kindness Day! 🌍🩷 Let’s celebrate by doing one kind act for others; send a message to someone who would appreciate to hear from you, donate to a food bank, see how many compliments you can give today, congratulate someone for an achievement that may go unnoticed or volunteer for a cause you believe in. There is a strong link between kindness and happiness. Doing things for others boosts our own wellbeing by creating a sense of wellbeing and purpose. Focusing on kindness can give us perspective on what really matters and help us feel grounded and connected, even in challenging times. Kindness connects us with others, so it strengthens our social connections and relationships. Kindness can change our world - it sends positive social ripples as when people receive kindness they are then more likely to pass kindness on to others. We need kindness right now more than ever. Let’s send ripples of kindness around the world for World Kindness Day! #happiness #worldkindnessday #worldkindnessday2025 #wellbeing Follow us for your daily dose of positive inspiration, or sign up to our newsletter via the link in our bio to access to our free programs and resources. 📚 We‘re here to help you make your life and the lives of those around you a happier, kinder place to be. 🌈 actionforhappiness.org

Encircling the Monument’s plinth are 30 roundels — each representing a nation that flew the Spitfire. Each 75cm insignia mirrors those once painted on the aircraft itself — a circle of courage, unity & international cooperation. Text ‘SPITFIRE’ to 70085 to donate £10 to NSP.

Had a fantastic time with our youth group on a First World War themed session with us. They created poppy wreaths and poppy pebbles as well as learning about the Sopwith Pup Aeroplane and holding some real items from the era.
