Neil White, English writer: Why do the British dislike Donald Trump? First of all, Trump lacks some of the qualities traditionally valued by the British. For example, he has no class, no charm, no composure, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity. We like to laugh, and although Trump can be funny, he has never said anything witty or even mildly amusing—not once, ever. This particularly bothers the British—for us, the absence of humor is almost the same as the absence of humanity. And with Trump, this seems to be the case. He doesn’t even appear to understand what a joke is; his idea of humor is a crude remark, an illiterate insult, or a random act of cruelty. Trump is a troll, and like all trolls, he is never funny and never laughs. His mind is simple—like a bot running on petty prejudices and various nastiness, with no layer of irony, complexity, nuance, or depth. Everything is superficial. Some Americans may see this as a refreshing, progressive simplicity and authenticity. But we, the British, do not. We see it as a lack of inner life, a lack of soul. In Britain, we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are brave underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is the opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich boy or a greedy fat man—he’s more like a bloated white slug, a privileged Jabba the Hutt. He breaks all the rules of basic decency associated with the Marquess of Queensberry—he hits below the belt, something a gentleman would never do. He especially likes to strike the vulnerable or voiceless—and kicks them when they are down. His flaws are hard to miss, and the fact that at least one-third of Americans fail to notice them is shocking to the British. It is impossible to read any of his tweets or hear him speak even a couple of sentences without peering into an abyss. In fact, if Frankenstein had decided to create a monster made entirely of human flaws—he would have created Trump. “A man without a sense of humor is almost crippled to me,” — Pierre Richard.

Those outraged by King Charles not delivering an “Easter Message” (which he’s never delivered before) & which Queen Elizabeth only did once in her 70 yr reign could, of course, pop into a church & listen to a live Easter message from the pulpit Just ask your satnav where it is…

In honor of April Fool’s Day, a reminder to all the MAGA shidiots who told me to “cry harder” after the 2024 election… He promised you no more foreign wars and now we’re putting boots on the ground in Iran. He promised you $2.00 gas, it’s now over $4. He promised you tariff checks that never came, lower grocery prices that have since gone up, and millions of Epstein files he never released. He fooled you all because you wanted to believe a pathological liar conman felon gave a shit about you, when he never has and never will. So, today, I lift a glass filled to the brim with your salty tears and I say, cry harder stupids. Cry. Fucking. Harder.

If the FA apply a points deduction proportionate to Luton's 10-point deduction to Chelsea (based on Luton's payments to agents being £160,00 and Chelsea's being £47.5m), then Chelsea will be deducted 2,970 points.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Good result for Chelsea: club fined only £10m and given a suspended transfer ban after Premier League found 36 separate undisclosed payments totalling £47.5m made “to 12 persons or entities on behalf of the club”. Lenient sanctions. No sporting sanctions. Yet these are serious offences, as the sanction agreement between the PL and Chelsea makes clear, stating “they were not only obvious and deliberate breaches of the rules but also because they involved deception and concealment in relation to financial matters”. Yet no points deductions. Just a manageable (if record) fine and a “suspended one-year first-team player transfer ban (suspended for two years)”. Surely they gained a sporting advantage by recruiting such players? So surely a sporting sanction should be in order? And where's the consistency? In 2008, Luton Town received a 10-point deduction for irregularities in dealing with agents (nb from FA). There still could be some further sanctions by the FA following its "ongoing investigation". PL points to mitigating factors: current owners Clearlake/Todd Boehly in May 2022 voluntarily self-reported potential historical breaches from the Roman Abramovich era. Club co-operated extensively and helped provide (with others) 10,000 documents for PL investigation. PL established “that between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments by third parties associated with the club were made to players, unregistered agents and other third parties”. Payments related to the purchases of players including Eden Hazard, Willian, Samuel Eto’o, David Luiz, Andre Schurrle and Nemanja Matic - there is no suggestion any were aware of the illicit payments. The detailed work of the investigators – and level of Clearlake’s co-operation – is impressive. The sanctions less so. It is a legitimate debate: should a club be punished for offences under a previous owner? Yes, most fans of other clubs would scream. It's a deterrent. And the value of those players' contribution and subsequent sales arguably still benefits the club. PL also investigated “potential breaches of the Premier League’s Youth Development Rules, committed by a former senior employee, relating to the club’s registration of Academy players between 2019 and 2022”. Again, self-reported by the club, this time in 2025. Chelsea punished with £750,000 fine and immediate nine-month ban from registering academy players from PL and EFL clubs. #CFC

🗿Reform FreeSpeech™🗿 Reform UK's utterly hypocritical and hysterical stance on 'free speech' has been on display over that last couple of days. They have been REALLY upset by the decision of the Bangor University debating society to ban their divisive and hateful politics from campus. I mean REALLY upset. To the point that almost every single Reform mouthpiece was activated yesterday to attack the Uni. It started with that guy who was the head of their catastrophically laughable DOGE unit — his name escapes me — writing a letter [via 𝕏] to the university, threatening to withdraw £30 million in funding if they didn't stop being so mean to Sarah Pochin. The guy is an unelected bureaucrat, by the way. An elite who bought his way into politics. Farage hates those guys … apparently. After being roundly ridiculed, the abuse directed towards the Uni continued unabated from every angle. All Reform MPs had a pop. All GB News presenters had a pop. Their new leader in Wales [who lives in Bath] had several pops. Even Real Braverman [Spanish Division 3] had a go. But one thing became increasingly clear throughout the day; Reform UK hate people who exert freedom of speech. They only want to have their own version of free speech and would launch a tactical nuclear strike on anywhere that disagrees with Reform FreeSpeech™. Matt Goodwin ran and hid from an election hustings last night because he was scared that there would be too much free speech on display — not Reform FreeSpeech™. Nigel Farage has repeatedly shied away from debating Zack Polanski because Zack's free speech is a bit too much like reality for him. I jest of course but these plastic patriots that are running a perpetual campaign by the Trump 2025 playbook, have zero substance. They cannot stand up a credible argument and defend it in public. It's why Farage holds 'press conferences' every day with handpicked journos that won't ask him anything difficult. And god forbid, one tricky question gets through, he employs the Trump method of shouting “fake news” or “boring”. Reform FreeSpeech™ is their version of reality, but it's graphene thin. Scratch the surface and the entire thing collapses. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
