I’m a fan of Maher, he gave me one of the best days of my life on Sunday, but I also remember wanting him sacked immediately after Scunthorpe

But through all of it, he stayed. A man who already gave so much to this club as a player chose loyalty again when the club needed it most. He carried himself with dignity, pride and resilience during some of the darkest moments in Southend United’s history. And somehow, after everything - it feels fitting that his final game ended with silverware lifted high for the Shrimpers. A moment nobody connected to this football club will forget. Whatever comes next, Kevin Maher, Darren Currie and Mark Bentley leave with the respect and gratitude of Southend supporters everywhere far and wide. #sufc
