#edu331 @ktkelly14 CTW10: “think writes”, love! I think should be introduced in August and used consistently across subjects throughout the year...very important though⚠️use talking partners too as differentiation and as practice with face to face interaction (need more of this!)

#edu331 @ktkelly14 We need to celebrate words more...acknowledge their importance by displaying words on the wall, talking about words, implement a routine word activity in your classroom such as “words are wonderful day” if we are excited about words our kids will be too!

#edu331 @ktkelly14 STW14 Love the inquiry framework but don’t overlook the teacher’s role...model, model, model!! Students must be taught how to annotate, connect, organize, determine accuracy and importance, etc. don’t expect them to know!

#edu331 @ktkelly14 STW13: When integrating reading and writing across disciplines such a science and ss, have students “do”...make posters, comparison charts, timelines, journals...for the facts they are learning. Will help in processing big concepts as they have to restate them

@AddieRobards @ktkelly14 I had the same thought...so interesting how the “number of words you’re supposed to know” can change so drastically based on how you define what is being counted as a separate word...

@ktkelly14 CTW6 Prefixes were something that were not really explained to me when I was younger. However, just knowing the 4 prefixes “un,” “re,” “in,” and “dis” helps students figure out the meaning of over 1,500 words. This shows how important it is to teach these #EDU331

@carolinek1620 @ktkelly14 I agree! I also noticed in the 4 part inquiry framework, the teacher’s role is to model...so important that we don’t forget to show our students “how to...” before expecting them to explore, connect, organize, think critically, etc.

#edu331 @ktkelly14 STW14 Inquiries are unique to the classroom experience because students get to explore the material stemming from their own curiosities rather than teacher delivery.

Hey everyone! I’m Miller an Elementary Ed major at Furman. I think that it is so important to make time for students to be able to read books of their choosing! When independent reading time is always an assigned book it steals the joy of reading #preservicelit

@eallen1400 @ktkelly14 That’s a great idea Elizabeth! I want to work with my host teacher to alternate the end of the day video in the classroom with a read aloud.

A1: For World Read Aloud Day I started my semester goal of reading a children's book to my current class of 4th graders each day I'm there. As their reading skills vary, I wanted to read books that the entire class could read on their own. #preservicelit #EDU331 @ktkelly14

One word for 2019: confidence. I think that confidence balanced by humility is recipe for success. I have the humility I’m working on the confidence in 2019. @ktkelly14
