Gut instinct is inexact, it's human, it's flawed, and yet it's all we got. It's informed by who I am and what I have seen in life, so here I am before you to answer your questions. Please make them count. Thank you."

The decisions I will write - no matter how many pages - are all post-hoc rationalizations and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Judicial philosophies are simply things judges invented to make them feel better about their use of gut instinct.
Here is what I wish judges would say in their confirmation hearings:
"I, like every judge, decide my cases based on what I think is fair. This is informed by my life experiences. Then I find a legal justification for the result.

Why do lawyers do the "twenty-four (24) month period" thing? I was taught that amounts over ten are written with the actual numbers. Is a holdover from the days of paper when twenty-four was less easily forged into twenty-eight than 24?
@MollyHuff317 Truer words have never been said. But law school also does really teach you how the world works. I didn't feel like an adult until I went.
@TonyFishDrone I love that you love your case law! I truly feel like the only way I finished my reading 1L year was to skip all indented quotations, all citations, and definitely all the case notes after the decision. It was a little choppy but eh, I got the general idea! 🙃
I need to get better at not getting distracted by reading the cases cited by the cases cited [&etc] by the case I'm reading. I'm ending up way afield sometimes. #1L#lawstudent
@qi_no_more I'm so conflicted about where to put Coffee Endangerment in the hierarchy of 2020's existential threats. I'm thinking around #3, but then I feel the #FirstWorldProblems guilt.......
Mary J. Blige & Gwen Stefani put out Christmas albums. Snoop had a reality show. 50 cent declared bankruptcy. Ja Rule was a wannabe influencer w/ Fyre Fest. Britney, Mariah, Christina Aguilera & Usher all had or will have Vegas residencies. What is going on?!
Nelly is going to be on Dancing w/ the Stars? NELLY?? I'm devastated. 😭 Remember "I, I am #1. Two is not a winner and 3 nobody remember?" Doesn't this guarantee that Nelly will go down in history as a 3??
