@chonkychihuahua someone's level of literacy or access to books isn't going to grant them magical empathy powers. The poorest people or those with the least access to books can easily be the most empathetic and abused people by those who do have access to literature.

@chonkychihuahua Problem is that apparently a lot of people saw or heard such an asinine thought and considered it true or deep. Apart from the obvious that you can consume other types of media or read harmful books that give you a poor worldview. People couldn't always read or access books

someone at work said that a generation of kids growing up not reading books is a generation of kids not learning how to imagine what it's like to put themselves in someone else's shoes and understand how/why they feel what they do (empathy)
