@ernestdove @donnie3114 True, but you can blame stearns for bringing in the players he did who have performed (or not) as we all predicted. Just look at polanco and Robert's histories - 1 good year and lots of injuries and down years. Look at semien's decline last few years.

@donnie3114 the forever catch 22. they cant get on the field and force guys to hit with RISP or pitch more than 3 innings. They also cant force the players themselves to take themselves out of lineup/rotation.

@kurt1124 @ernestdove But polanco also had a long injury history and a very checkered hitting past. He had a great 2025 - stearns just chose to ignore everything else. So they had two major acquisitions with big injury questions plus semien who was clearly in steep decline

@ernestdove I don’t know if they were counting on him to be a middle of the order bat. I’d guess they expected Lindor-Soto-Bichette-Polanco to be good reliable major league hitters. And then get average to above average production from at least two of Alvarez-Baty-Robert-Benge-Vientos

Even in hindsight I liked the gamble on him.........but here's the thing. Seems like EVERY year now the Mets acquire a guy like this, but instead of him being in your contending teams lineup batting like 7th ir 8th hes instead middle of the order along with OTHER guys same deal.

Luis Robert Jr. will receive an epidural injection today. He will be shut down for seven to 10 days and the hope is that it will be a short stint on the IL.

@chelsea_janes Who could have seen this coming? It isn't like he was always injured in chicago after all.....as I said at the time, I wanted no part of this guy. He is a 220 hitter who strikes out a ton and is always hurt. That is what he is proving himself to be again.

@Mets Team spends almost 400 million and has AJ Melendez as the clean up hitter? He had a couple great games in chicago but he is a career 216 (687 ops) hitter. He is a spare part not a serious hitter. What an absolute joke roster stearns put together.

Can't believe this is real life. Only April & Mets are signing multiple guys off street. In spring they had a handful of tryout guys that are doing OK in AAA plus prospects like Morabito sitting there but the team with the 2nd highest payroll in baseball all waiver wire again.

@ernestdove Jed Lowrie 2.0. I said it back in the winter - this was a bad and overpriced contract. To save some money on the back end we gave up a 1B who whatever else you could say played every day and brought much needed power to the lineup (which we are desperately short on right now)
