@StephenHanleyIE @GregVann This is not practical for students that play sport or music that involves big bags and instruments. You cannot always leave these at school. slow buses also contribute. It can take my child 30min to travel a very short distance.

@DatJot I agree but unfortunately, you will need to learn old technology. Esri is typically 5-10 years behind the tech curve. For those with experience in older tech, look for work at an organization using #ArcGIS Enterprise, such as government agencies or Esri Partners.

GIS Note: GIS is not all about Rasters and Vectors and Remote Sensing and etc, there is a lot of Information Technology that goes into GIS and if you are wanting to get into Information Technology, I would suggest learning about GIS. A lot of IT people do not know about GIS and knowing GIS could give you an advantage in your endeavors. For instance, IT people generally knows about the following: 1⃣ DNS Servers 2⃣ Active Directory 3⃣ Windows Server 4⃣ Linux Server 5⃣ Bash Shell (Scripting) 6⃣ Windows Power Shell (Scripting) 7⃣ Networking 8⃣ Security (Cyber) 9⃣ Web Servers (Nginx, Apache, IIS) 🔟Databases and the list goes on but what a lot of IT people do not know about or have a whole lot of experience in is with GIS technology such as the ESRI products below: So if you are wanting to get into the IT field, I would suggest learning about this technology offered by #ESRI, but this technology has a high Entry Barrier, which can hinder an IT professional. Here are two entry barriers: ☕️ Cost: You have to purchase a license to work with the technology and it is not cheap. ☕️ Niche Employment: Since the cost is not reachable by your average person, a person wanting to learn the technology will need to work with an entity such as government that utilizes the technology and that will train you on this technology. Once you learn the technology, I guarantee you will have an edge on other IT professionals, especially when it comes to government. Just some food for thought. #gis #IT #InformationTechnology #ESRI #arcgis #ArcServer #WebAdaptor #GeoEventServer #gischat #computersecurity #servers #windows #linux

@DatJot I also do not agree with your assessment that cost of entry is a barrier. You can learn a lot from a free online account and a home use full access license is USD100.

@DatJot I appreciate the opinion but I am not sure that GIS should be seen only as a technology. That was never the intent. It is way more than that and an understanding of the geographical concepts is necessary to get the most out of the tools. It is more a tool like Excel

@simongerman600 @GeoPenny Do you know how far away Australia is? Outlier is New Zealand and that they would want to leave is inexplicable- probably cost of living related.

Geography trivia for you: The US records net positive migration from the entire world except Australia. Does that mean US Americans think Australia is the only more desirable destination on the planet? 😉🇺🇸🇦🇺

Went for a hike Saturday with a family friend. Yesterday he slipped while on a sailing regatta. Today we just came back from his funeral. Watch out; accidents happen. Enjoy every day.

@FarOutQld Hmm so it's the South Africans' fault again? Not sure of the relevance of calling out nationality of immigrants to this story. How about diversifying and looking into value adding, not like they don't have time!

Like a lot of cities, Brisbane has quite an extensive tram system till it was shut down in the 1960s in favour of car transport.

@cottonfarmgirl @robkellytweets this is an argument for public boarding schools not for funding private schools which overwhelmingly are for the inner city kids of bankers and lawyers

@robkellytweets I always love that word "defunded". What exactly does that mean? It's an emotive word and unless you unpack what funding you mean, it's a pointless question? Should govt defund mining?
