“Sports, necessarily unifies people. In Rwanda’s case, we have seen a lot of benefits. We can see how it has increased numbers in tourism, people who want to come to Rwanda, people come for conferences, they come for events like this. It comes to choices you make, it comes to mindset as well. When countries come together, when leagues come together, when people come together, the benefits are multiplied by a much bigger factor. You don’t want to have such a good thing isolated in one region or one country. The more people that work together, that come together, it forms a much bigger market that makes sense of everything you are doing.” President Kagame speaking on the transformative power of sports investment during @theBAL Investors Summit

Death, Faith, and the meaning of Life This past Sunday, my mother-in-law, at the age of 90, went to be with the Lord. As culture states since Monday evening, we are having a vigil (Ikiriyo), pastors have been preaching words of comfort to family and friends, speaking about grief, pain, and loss. As i listened, one question kept coming to mind; why do many pastors speak about death as though it is entirely tragic, yet faith teaches us that earthly life is temporary and eternal life awaits believers? Perhaps the contradiction is not as simple as it first appears. Faith teaches us that life is not permanent ownership, but a divine trust. We are only stewards of the time, relationships, opportunities, and responsibilities entrusted to us by God. Life is a test of character, obedience, compassion, and purpose; a temporary assignment whose true measure is not wealth, status, or longevity, but how faithfully we fulfilled what was placed in our hands. No matter how powerful, wealthy, educated, or respected someone becomes, every human being eventually reaches the same destination. Death, therefore, is not an interruption of life’s journey; it is part of the journey itself. Yet even with faith, human beings still grieve. The Bible itself records moments of sorrow and tears in the face of death. The pain people feel when they lose a parent, spouse, child, or friend does not necessarily reflect a lack of faith. More often, it reflects the depth of love they shared. Pastors preach comfort because funerals are attended not only by the spiritually prepared, but also by the emotionally wounded. At the same time, perhaps religious leaders need to speak more openly and honestly about mortality. Many believers grow up hearing about heaven, eternal peace and the temporary nature of earthly life, yet when death comes, communities sometimes respond as though something unnatural has happened. Death is painful, yes, but it is also inevitable. A life that reaches 90 years is not a tragedy; it is a testimony of longevity, wisdom, experience and grace. Perhaps the role of faith is neither to deny grief nor to celebrate death carelessly, but to help people hold two truths at the same time: that separation hurts, and that life on earth was never meant to be permanent. Funerals should remind us not only to mourn those who have departed, but also to reflect on how we ourselves are living. If life is truly a trust and a temporary assignment, then the real question is not simply how long we live, but whether we lived with purpose, dignity, compassion, and faithfulness. As Paul says in Second Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” May her soul rest in eternal peace 🕊️

Kigali, Rwanda, 19 Mei, 2026.

That's how Daniel Naftal Lema, one of our MPA Pioneer students from Tanzania, describes his time at the Africa School of Governance (ASG). "ASG shaped my thinking. It sharpened my way of looking at the continent." Africa needs leaders who analyse deeply before they act. We built the Master of Public Administration for exactly that. Applications close 31 May. From an 18-month observation and analysis of both mainstream media and social media platforms, it appears that we are increasingly facing a challenge in the way we engage in public conversations and debates. In many cases, discussions quickly become emotional, divisive, or confrontational instead of constructive and solution-oriented. One possible reason for this is that, as a society, we may not have invested enough in strengthening our culture of reading, critical thinking, and continuous learning. Reading does more than provide information; it expands our understanding of different perspectives, teaches patience in listening, and helps people engage with ideas without viewing every disagreement as a personal attack. Countries that cultivate a strong reading and learning culture often produce citizens who debate issues with greater depth, respect, and maturity. Rwanda itself has made significant investments in education, knowledge-sharing, and youth empowerment over the years. Initiatives that promote literacy, innovation, and civic engagement have shown that when people are exposed to knowledge and diverse perspectives, conversations become more informed and productive. As our society becomes more digitally connected, there is also a growing need to strengthen responsible communication, thoughtful engagement, and intellectual curiosity, especially among young people. Healthy conversations are built on understanding, facts, and mutual respect. If we truly want stronger public discourse both online and offline, then encouraging a culture of reading, learning, and self-improvement must remain part of our long-term national and community development journey.

I am deeply grateful @sacstate for erecting a permanent #genocide monument on its campus. This will spur and continue to be a catalyst for young and future generations to learn & commit to fighting against genocide and genocide denial. Thank for your unwavering support and solidarity through several decades as we continue to commemorate the 1994 #Genocide against the Tutsi. Thankful as well to all partners, Friends of Rwanda Association, Ibuka USA, and the Rwandan community in California whose commitment made this possible. #Kwibuka32

🌍 Day 2 in Kigali brought #ACF2026 to a close, and with it, two days that have redrawn the lines of Africa's economic conversation. 📆 What began on Thursday as a question of scale ended on Friday as a working agenda. Across megaprojects, finance, productivity and the eight value chains that anchor the continent's industrial future, two thousand decision-makers spent the day pressing past panels and into commitments, past diagnostics and into the architecture of who builds what, with whose capital, on whose terms. 🔥 The closing day refused the easy exits. On stage and in the corridors, the conversations turned harder and more specific, on African banks and the credit they are still not deploying, on family offices and the wealth that is still not circulating, on the start-up scene and the consolidation it can no longer avoid, on the energy mix that will or will not power the continent's industrial leap. 🎤 The voices that closed the forum picked up where the opening sequence left off, holding the line on African Ownership and turning continental ambition into the language of execution. 🎬 The day, in two minutes. 👉 The conversations don't end in Kigali. Follow the Africa CEO Forum to stay close to what comes next! #ACF2026 #AfricaCEOForum
