R-SEAT: Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table
R-SEAT’s new Reflection Note, “Beyond Presence: Who Shapes Decisions in Global Refugee Governance?”, reflects on key lessons from the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review. Refugee participation is advancing, with growing recognition of collaboration with refugee-led organizations and stronger leadership emerging from the Global South. At the same time, important gaps remain: global participation must connect more meaningfully with national-level processes; opportunities for substantive dialogue are still limited; and engagement must move beyond one-off moments toward sustained, ongoing processes. Swipe to learn the 5 Key Takeaways. Read the note on our website: static1.squarespace.com/static/6548c4e…

R-SEAT: Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table
In February, R-SEAT carried out a mission to Mexico to support ongoing efforts to strengthen meaningful refugee participation at the national level. Throughout the visit, we met with refugee-led organizations, independent refugee leaders, civil society partners, COMAR, UNHCR, and other stakeholders to reflect on the current state of the Federal Quadripartite Mechanism and the conditions required for its reactivation. The mission included bilateral meetings, a technical workshop with members of the mechanism, and a dialogue space that brought together institutional actors and refugee representatives in the context of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Across these conversations, there was a shared recognition that strengthening refugee participation requires not only formal spaces, but also preparation, trust, clear methodologies, and safe environments where refugee leaders can engage without fear of retaliation. R-SEAT remains committed to supporting this process through its three pillars (Engage, Amplify, and Connect) by accompanying refugee-led leadership, facilitating the exchange of experiences with other countries, and helping build stronger bridges between governments, international agencies, and refugee communities. We thank all partners and participants who contributed to these discussions and look forward to continuing this work together in the next phase. @comar_sg, @AcnurMexico, @IMUMIDF, @CasaRefugiados, @CruzRoja_MX, @SinFronterasIAP, @AsylumAccessMX, Apoyo a Migrantes Venezolanos, @nicasmex

It was a pleasure to present our newly published article alongside Ola El-Taliawi and James Milner at @Carleton_U yesterday. doi.org/10.1093/rsq/hd… This work is part of an exciting new research agenda that seeks to better connect the fields of public policy and refugee studies, two areas that benefit from being in closer and more consistent dialogue.

📢New article: “Centering those who are closest: How funders can ensure refugee-led organizations are leading in localization efforts.” Written by our East Africa Regional Lead, Ishimwe Jean Marie (@ishimwemarie432), this piece outlines six practical ways funders can channel more resources to refugee-led organizations and ensure they are at the forefront of localization efforts. At a time of declining funding, Ishimwe highlights the urgency of moving beyond token progress toward concrete, systemic change—reforming funding architectures to sustainably resource refugee-led organizations and local actors through genuinely inclusive mechanisms.
