Human Rights Watch @hrw and staff sit comfortably in luxury hotels in Europe, writing reports about the atrocities in Eastern DRC. They publish these reports and act as though they’ve accomplished something meaningful. Yet many of them have never even set foot on the ground. Instead, they rely heavily on information provided by the Kinshasa regime and its propagandists. It’s also worth remembering that the Kinshasa regime channels millions of dollars toward influencing organizations like HRW to portray it favorably and amplify its narratives.

French UN Worker killed in drone strike in Goma, Eastern Congo: When 166 Banyamulenge were massacred, and another 106 wounded, on August 13, 2004, at a United Nations-run refugee camp in Gatumba, near Bujumbura, Burundi, @hrw conducted the investigation and concluded it was an act of FDLR and Burundi’s FLN-Parmehutu. @hrw warned: “if we publish these findings, they will embolden Rwanda. Let’s classify them sine die.” That was the cause of the fallout between Rwanda and Human Rights Watch lead researcher, late Alison Desforges. No one has ever been held accountable for these crimes, not even the leaders of Burundi’s FNL-Parmehutu who claimed responsibility. The hesitation to name the culprit of the drone strikes in Goma that killed a French UN worker Karine Buisset fall in the same ideology. Imagine such cruelty! The lives of innocents do not matter if they validate Rwanda’s Responsibility to Protect (R2P): an international norm. I hope this investigation will not end in Thucydides proverbial: "The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
