I'll admit that I find it somewhat shocking how fast the center dropped Vote Blue No Matter Who and went to full civil war. I expected more of a "dislike but mildly support" thing, how they've been with AOC or Omar. But we're in full blown throw-the-election mode. Wild.

And for the record, *i* am probably undertaxed; obviously I would prefer to pay less tax but if the tax system were made more progressive via changes that were executed equitably and as a result I owed more tax, I would say that was good policy

I don’t really have strong feelings about the pied-a-terre tax. But I do think people of means are undertaxed, and this tax impacts only people who have significant means AND furthers a social aim AND generates a lot of fun bad-faith squealing by people not used to accountability

@GamersWrongs Plenty of kids living in NYC do this as well. They keep their parents address in Ohio and other swing states to vote in competitive elections.

Multiple friends of mine got the letter who do not have $5mm homes. The single common denominator is that they’re all registered to vote outside of NYC. All of them vote for Democrats in competitive districts outside of NYC.

Weirdly, I’m a homeowner in NYC (a coop) and I didn’t show up on Mamdani’s list or get a letter from the city saying I owed the pied-à-terre tax. It’s probably because I don’t own a primary residence outside the city & my apt’s not worth millions?

Man the truth hurts. Abdul El Sayed has been a noun, a verb, and AIPAC the entire campaign. It's gross, it's alienated Jews, and may cost him the general election. Haley Stevens is just pointing out the obvious.

Absolutely this. Those who supported Uncommitted are why we have a 2nd Trump term. They are not Democrats. They will lose general elections. If they make it through the primary, because they used the Democratic party platform, I will not support them.

There's been a protracted and pretty transparently bad-faith effort to portray El Sayed as some raging misogynist, and I'd encourage its promoters to ask themselves what harm they've done to feminism in the name of an effort most Democratic women themselves aren't buying
