Waking up with the siren or strange "boom" sound became the norm. This morning it was the latter. I've been talking about resilience, studying resilience, and even teaching resilience for the last 5+ years. Now is the chance to practice it in real-time What is resilience? There are various definitions of resilience. But they all agree that resilience is not about coping. I believe it is not even about bouncing back. Here is my favorite definition: Resilience is the ability to grow from adversity. There are quite a few variables that impact how resilient you are. Here are just a few of them: - how your body reacts to stress and if you have skills to manage your body's stress response - level of self-awareness: e.g. knowing your triggers, knowing your values, connection to your body, and ability to read signs - level of self-regulation: e.g. the ability to change your thinking - mental agility - level of optimism There are more. But notice how most of them have the word "level" in them. That's good news. Because you can train yourself to increase your level. What is real-time resilience? Real-time resilience is a mental judo - it's your ability to catch negative, counter-productive thoughts in the moment and change them to be able to function "normally". And I put normally in quotes because you probably would not be able to do so. But you can do your best. Here are just a few effective strategies to combat counter-productive thoughts: 1. Find evidence that your thoughts are not true. For example, you have a thought that whatever you do is meaningless in this situation. You can combat it with the evidence: "This is not true, because if I keep writing, other people can learn from my experience and use it. So it might not help me, but it will help other people. And since one of my core values is Helping, I continue writing". 2. Create a plan. For example, you have a thought that catastrophic events are going to happen. And it indeed they can happen e.g. the war on 4 fronts. But thinking about it is not helpful and/or productive at this moment. Instead, you combat these types of thoughts with a plan: "We monitor news. We have the alerts app installed. We stay home as much as we can. So when there is a siren, we go to our secure room. We have stock of water, food, torches, and batteries there for at least 24 hours. Also, lots of our friends offered shelter in their homes outside Israel. And we might decide to take it." There are more strategies to deploy. For me, it happens on autopilot, just because I've been training myself for years now. What's the Benefit? As a result, I can re-claim the ability to focus and continue with the plan for the day. Believe it or not, with all that is going on, I am able to continue with my duties as a BetterHuman Editor, run the workshops, and take care of my family. So, does it make sense to invest in building your resilience muscle? You tell me

Confession time: I am a master procrastinator! Not on everything. Otherwise, my life would be a total mess. However, there are certain types of tasks and projects that I just can't get myself to do. Sounds familiar? Some of those tasks are boring and tedious. So I keep putting them off wishing they just disappear. Until they come back and bite me in my soft spot. Some of those tasks are scary or unpleasant. So I do the same - keep pushing them forward. Thinking I might find a way to avoid them altogether. Putting things off or pushing things forward (aka procrastinating) isn't the best strategy, right? But it's so hard to change the pattern by yourself. That's why we decided to do it together. Come join us at Coachdotme for the 5-Day Beat Procrastination Challenge to make progress or cross those long-outstanding tasks off your list. We think that the Challenge is the best way to do it because it provides accountability, urgency, and fun - three key components to conquer procrastination habit. You'll get support & accountability from our habit coaches though daily check-ins and co-working sessions. BTW - We are starting tomorrow - Monday, 13th May so that there is no time to procrastinate on signing up 🙃 PS I'll put the registration link in the comment and hope to see you there

@mrcabasvidani I like to say "recovering overachiever". This means I recognize I used to be (or even am still), but definitely making effort to move away

I can't understand people proudly telling me: "I'm a serial procrastinator" I get the sense of belonging (many people procrastinate). But you're postponing your growth, as a person, as an entrepreneur. Choose the right tribe. Don't choose procrastinators.

This is counterintuitive but true. I have started to take small steps toward my priorities and goals and see the reality of that growth mentioned by James Clear in the quote below. I started writing on LinkedIn and X this year, and when I look back, I can't believe how I got inspiration for everything I have written so far. Atomic Habits helped me create a Meditation Habit. I would do 1 deep breath at my scheduled Meditation time on days I cannot take 10 minutes. Eventually, I will be able to make 10 minutes consistently. Just getting started and consistently doing it, even for 1 second, helped create the motivation. Go and start now; take that first step, however tiny it is.

"Many of the best things in life grow along the way. Start hanging out with someone and love grows along the way. Start exercising and motivation grows along the way. Start writing and inspiration grows along the way. Start now and let the feeling follow." -@JamesClear

Struggling with the "no time" issue? You are not alone. In particular, in the BANI world, we can no longer rely on just tips, tricks, and time management tools. Here is my take on mindset shifts that you must adopt to have time for what matters lidiachmel.com/overcoming-tim…

"Values Detective: Decoding Personal Success" Podcast is coming... I've been thinking (talking, contemplating) about starting a podcast on values for some time now. Believe it or not, I am a starter. The problem was not "to start". The problem was to nail the format of the show. Here is an idea: what if, in each episode, I feature a successful person, assess their top personal values from their public appearances (speeches, books, social media), and demonstrate how living their values contributes to their success? I think it could be a fun thing to do (for me as a host). But also, I would do what I originally wanted to do: start collecting stories behind values so that you can have a deeper understanding of each value and what it means to live this value every day. Wanted to share this exciting discovery for two reasons. Just see your reaction: thumb up, thumb down, don't know - need to listen to understand. And also get accountable for recording the first 3-5 episodes by the end of the year. So I can launch on 1 January 2024 cause (yes, I am a sucker for New Year - New Project kinda things). BTW, What do you think of the name?

@LidiaChmel Are you going to post on Youtube? To maximize your chances, find out the most successful keywords of your competitors. You may end up in the "recommended videos" next to their videos. Then integrate those keywords in your titles. And work on captivating screenshots.

@mrcabasvidani Well, I do plan to make it with video. Personally, I think in 2024, there is not much point in making audio-only podcasts. So, hopefully, that will help with discoverability. Plus, of course, I am planning to promote it with other tools.

@LidiaChmel The main issue with podcasts is discoverability. You may be doing a great work, but without active promotion, no one listens. It's not like Youtube videos or blog articles, that get organic traffic through search.

@mrcabasvidani Thanks, Alberto! Indeed, it's all about execution. But I think it's a bit more than a few pilots. I think it might be up to the first 50 to 100 before you get really good at it.

3 weeks ago I talked about how "Build with Fans" seems to resonate with my approach to involve the community in the building process. I get a few people saying they don't like the word "fans". What's your feel toward this word?
Kevon Cheung 🥦@MeetKevon

I'm more and more convinced that the term "Build in Public" doesn't capture the philosophy I share with my students. Thinking "Build with Fans" fits better. If you know my work semi-well, what do you think?
