Last week I attended the @Ligatus_UAL bootcamp I mean summer school on historical bookbindings @KU_Leuven. Avalanches of theory and landslides of unique bindings at the Maurits Sabbe Library and @kbrbe. A week later I still see laced case bindings whenever I close my eyes. ♥️♥️

Considered one of the finest late medieval Books of Hours out there: Book of Hour of Mary of Burgundy (1477). Probably commissioned by her father Charles the Bold & made in Flanders. The best miniaturists contributed to this work. Currently held at the National Library of Vienna.

To me, this image (ca. 1448) from the Chroniques de Hainaut (Royal Library Brussels) is one of the finest medieval miniatures ever. This image just oozes the wealth and power of Philip the Good and his court .
