Noon musing: It’s not even 72 hours since Karnataka verdict was delivered but we expect CM to be announced in a nano second. Politics is not instant coffee. The BJP took over a week to pick Yogi Adityanath as its CM choice in UP 2017 amidst much debate and see how it turned out! Cong doesn’t win too often so surely they deserve some time too! 😊 ‘high command culture’ in all parties! Agree?

This hub will promote research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Block Chain, Deep Technology, and other leading-edge innovation. For the first time in India, we have a technology hub that will function together with educational institutions, start-ups, corporates and the government. It is jointly funded by the Union Government, the TN Government and the private sector. Happy to be reunited with friends from the past for this initiative.

The pain of India’s partition along religious lines still brings back horrible memories… The weak Congress, led by Nehru, in hope of being able to laud over India, kept acceding to unrealistic demands of the Muslim league, including proportionate voting and eventually partition of India… They don’t seem to have learned their lessons and what is happening in Karnataka is a grim reminder that Congress is now the new Muslim League, which has promised too much to the Muslim community, in a bid to grab power. Offering to extend religion based reservation to Muslims between 6-13%, which is brazenly communal and unconstitutional, promoting creeping Islamisation through hijab and halal, exhibiting willingness to reverse anti-conversion and cow slaughter laws, are all worryingly reminiscent of the Congress of 1947, which conceded too much to the Muslim groups, but got nothing in return… Sunni Ulma Shafi Sadi demanding Deputy Chief Ministership and 5 plum portfolio is just the beginning. More and more concessions will be sought and a vulnerable Congress will keep giving in. Weep Karnataka, weep. Those who fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.

The Congress must decide on its CM candidate soon since people are waiting for them to fulfil their 5 guarantees, which will cost the exchequer 51,150 crore (doesn’t include free bus passes promised) and is 21.6% (will be higher after accounting for free bus passes) of Karnataka’s total budget. At the moment, Karnataka’s total receipt is 2.26 lakh crore and expenditure 2.87 lakh crore. With the 5 guarantees, the fiscal deficit will widen to 1.14 lakh crore or 4.8% of the GSDP (up from 60,582 crore or 2.6% of GSDP right now). But none of it matters because this will have to be approved in the first cabinet meeting. The State’s finances be damned. One hopes Congress doesn’t do a Rajasthan, MP or a Himachal in Karnataka and go back on its words, which won’t be surprising.

@ProsaicView No. But she is right. In hindi, it is not कर्नाटका but कर्नाटक though in English we write Karnataka just like अशोक in english is written Ashoka. Basically the last ‘a’ in english comes from the ‘:’ ending of nouns in sanskrit - अशोक:

Directions for use. I do not think even the most nonsensical Ayurveda or Homeopathy formulation has such stupidity written on it.
