People are trying to give me a hard time about my 2024 Pre NFL Draft QB Board. So, I thought I should reply with year 2 development facts. Despite the fact that some of these quarterbacks are in more favorable situations than others, at the end of the day, the quarterback position is about accuracy. Accuracy is the bottom line. In order of my 2024 Pre-Draft QB Board these are their year 2 of their development completion percentages from the 2025 regular season: QB1 Spencer Rattler 67.7% QB2 Michael Penix Jr. 60.1% QB3 Joe Milton III 62.5% QB4 Bo Nix 63.4% QB5 Drake Maye 72.0% QB6 Jayden Daniels 60.6% QB7 Caleb Williams 58.1% QB8 J.J. McCarthy 57.6% What were my documented pre-draft grades on these 8 QBs? QB1 Spencer Rattler 1st Round QB2 Michael Penix Jr. 1st Round QB3 Joe Milton III 1st Round QB4 Bo Nix 1st Round QB5 Drake Maye 1st Round QB6 Jayden Daniels 3rd Round QB7 Caleb Williams 4th Round QB8 J.J. McCarthy 5th Round At this point of the conversation based on their year 2 completion percentages it looks like I could possibly been a little too high on Penix and a little too low on Maye in my exact pre-draft valuations when I stacked them up, but it’s not over yet in terms of absolute conclusions. Penix got hurt and according to the NFL, the Patriots and Maye had the third easiest schedule in the league this season (.429) operations.nfl.com/updates/the-ga…. Outside of that, it’s pretty much spot on at this point of the conversation and I’m doing my game film evaluations off YouTube and other online sources of televised game film. The five quarterbacks I gave first round grades to all have higher completion percentages than the bottom three that I didn’t give first round pre draft grades with the only exception being Penix (60.1%) and Daniels (60.6%). That’s how close my pre-draft “first round grades” match these quarterbacks actual year two completion percentage results (.5%). People will argue about how high I had Milton, but again talent is only half of the equation. Opportunity is the other half of the equation. The reality is Milton has sat behind Maye who was selected five rounds before Milton and Dak Prescott who is on a a 4-year, $240 million dollar deal. Of course, Milton will have to wait for opportunity given these dynamics. People will also argue about how high I had Rattler, but a coaching decision to play the quarterback the coach handpicked over Rattler (who he did not draft). does not change the fact that Rattler ended the season with a top-10 NFL completion percentage x.com/firstroundmock… Again, half the equation is opportunity. QB7-QB8 are spot on. Williams and McCarthy have backup level sub 60% accuracy in year 2. When it comes to “QB6” I even said pre-draft that Daniels was a high injury risk and that’s also spot on as his career has been riddled with injury and near injury misses in his rookie season when he actually played with a broken rib: firstroundmock.com/2023/12/nfl-hi… But even if I remove all of my situational fact based reasoning that I have presented, when I look at just the raw completion percentages I’m good with my pre-draft 2024 QB Board at this point of the timeline. And I feel as a former NFL Scout, there’s still a chance that when it’s all said and done the order I had them pre-draft will be the exact order their career completion percentages shake out.
