Last year, I was diagnosed with #ADHD and this has been such a whirlwind of emotions. I’m so proud to be a neurodivergent SLT and hope that I can continue to advocate for neurodiversity affirming practices in my role #Neurodivergent #wespeechies #mysltday

Does anyone else find it hard to keep on top of everything? Outside of work I have such little capacity to keep on top of basic things, eating, being social, doing side projects/hobbies, texting. It’s exhausting 🥲 feel like life is a constant checklist #ADHD #mysltday

It’s disappointing in 2023 to still see organisations such as @TweetingAutism which promote dangerous and pathologising narratives about Autism - with no regard to listening or co-producing work with #ActuallyAutistic people

We need more organisations/ resources designed/lead by #ActuallyAutistic adults. There are too many organisations which do NOT promote neuro-affirming practices and this needs to be lead by autistic people directly (continued)

Who is behind the “Thinking Autism” charity? @Autism I am disappointed that at the Autism show you advertised this organisation which labels Autism as a “disease” on their website?

#AskingAutistics as a newly diagnosed adult, what would have been useful in a post-diagnosis session/webinar?? Any particular topics or themes? Thank you

Today I learnt about this awful company, “Hopeful Brain”, promoting totally false and outright unethical practices - cannot believe in 2023 there are clinics stating neurodiversity is “caused by pesticides” I have no words! #autism #Neurodiversity #ADHD

SLT twitter:  I am working with a group of English Language students at The University of Birmingham who are doing a project about the current language and terminology used about autism and the collecting data around the language we already use as speech and language therapists…

To see such negative narratives in the media, alongside the glamorisation of ADHD on social media apps is damaging to those who live with it as it invalidates the difficulties us ADHDers face. It’s time to take #ADHD seriously #Neurodivergent

Having a very stressful week which is making my #ADHD a billion times worse. This is a reminder if you start to feel burnt out, it’s time to take a break and put yourself first and that doesn’t make you a failure! #mysltday

let’s get one thing clear: ADHD is not a trend. it’s not a “must-have” (thanks @DailyMailUK for that one) and it’s not anything that someone would fake in order to garner attention.

Try to stop tearing yourself down for things you would never give other people a hard time for. Show yourself the same kindness you show to others.

@EloiseLEloise @LilySLT This is really important and really easy to achieve. Mine dragged on over 12 weeks and though I kept asking I was never given a full picture of exactly what the process would be. Which gave rise to unnecessary anxiety. I feel the process should take 2 weeks max.

ADOS-2 / Autism diagnostic assessors, please can you share advice on creating more positive and neuro-affirming diagnostic reports. It’s a big question in one tweet but is there any type of working group/supervision on this? Thank u #Neurodiversity #SLTchat #wespeechies

@hattalksuk Yes this is brilliant! Also my memory impacts what I retain so I may repeat myself or ask someone the same question - even if they already told me the answer!
