@jareidz @waitbutwhy Losing approx. 40% of the world population would be devastating, and would result in total supply chain collapse. Even if 51% of people vote red, a whole lot more then 49% of the population is dying.

@waitbutwhy The correct answer is always red If you press red, you always survive. Also, if everyone presses red, everyone survives. Those who didn’t realize this and pressed blue get culled

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@areyouawitchor2 The Great Jon unintentionally losing the war for Robb is such a great piece of irony. His strong right hand, his loudest supporter, guy who outdrank 3 Freys at the Red Wedding and still killed 2 men when they tried to take him, and yet it was his actions that killed Robbs chances

@Snake_With_Feet @HeraldOfRome Thats retarded, given that Poseidon is attested in Mycenaean religion, seemingly of even higher importance than in Archaic or Classical times. If anything Poseidon would be a loan god from either Pre-Greek substrate, Anatolian influence, or Canaanite contact.

The claim that ancient Greek elites carried higher northern (steppe) ancestry than commoners, essentially a "northern ruling caste" framing, has been directly tested and debunked by Lazaridis, Reich et al. 2022: "Mycenaean period elites in Greece did not differ from the general population" Furthermore, older theories portrayed the Dorians as a blonde, northern-European-like people that invaded southern Greece, still promoted today by those with emotional and ideological bias, but completely debunked by genetics. The Proto-Dorians from Epirus (northwestern Greece), aka the "whitest" ancient Greeks, had the same steppe % ancestry as modern Cretans, one of the darkest modern Greek populations. The Dorians were one of the main Greek-speaking groups, traditionally thought to have migrated south from Epirus and the Pindus region into the Peloponnese and Crete at the end of the Bronze Age. The Classical Dorians from Epirus (Amvrakia) then score around 30% excess Anatolian admixture, with Archaic-period Carians from western Anatolia used as the proxy, Corinth_Tenea serves as a proxy for the historical Corinthian colonists who founded Amvrakia in the 7th century BC. Steppe ancestry refers to the genetic component from the Yamnaya pastoralists of the Pontic-Caspian steppe (modern Ukraine/southern Russia), who expanded into Europe around 3000 BC and brought the Indo-European languages with them. They claim that Greek elites carried higher steppe ancestry than commoners, essentially a "steppe ruling caste" framing. This theory has been directly tested and debunked by Lazaridis, Reich et al. 2022: "Mycenaean period elites in Greece did not differ from the general population" These new ancient Doric DNA samples used in the models below are from this study link.springer.com/article/10.118… G25 cords pastebin.com/ffNDy0yv Lazaridis, Reich et al. 2022 pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10…

nightwanderer@nyktophilos

the ancient greeks were obviously ruled by a caste of mostly fair-haired, blue-eyed noblemen who made up at least 20-30% of the population of ancient greece. the whining of balkanoids and meds will not change this in any shape or form. read nietzsche.

@Maptysk Thanks for the answer! Its my understanding that this is around the time the Phrygians began migrating into Anatolia, circa 1200bc, before rising to prominence in the power vacuum left by the Hittite collapse.

The Peak of Mycenaean Civilization: The LHIIIb, starting in 1330bc, is when the Mycenaean Civilization reaches its Peak. Sites of this period are the most Numerous compared to the others, and the Territory of Mycenaean Civlization stretches the furthest, encompassing most of Epirus in addition. This period of unprecedented Wealth and Power for Helladic Civilization precedes the Trojan War in ~1200bc, which would start at the very end of the LHIIIb, or on the Transition from LHIIIb to LHIIIc. In later phases, Mycenaean Civilization is less prosperous and has less influence overall, as we will see in coming posts.

The Beginning of Myceneaen Civilization: The Late Helladic in its earliest Phase in 1700-1600bc. The LHI is Distinguished from the preceding Middle Helladic period by a increase of wealth and social stratification. While the Middle Helladic was characterized by relatively simple cist burials, LH I saw the rise of a powerful warrior elite who utilized deep shaft graves filled with gold, bronze weaponry, and prestige goods. This phase is further differentiated by the heavy influence of Minoan artistic styles and the introduction of lustrous painted pottery, part of a shift from largely isolated local traditions toward a highly organized palatial society.

Did you know Persian is a gender-neutral language? Possibly the only one still widely spoken this way today. It’s the language we (Iranians) think in, which has shaped our way of thinking.

@GwdFabien @sami_abdt Imry Florent commanded Stannis' naval forces during the Blackwater. He was an incompetent commander, but politics meant Stannis had to give command to one of his powerful vassals. Imry led the fleet directly into the Wildfire trap and died.
