I really wish that America's bourgeoisie revolutionaries would think through the consequences should they be successful. The US, is, in fact, a pretty good place to live and (with certain notable exceptions) has been a net positive influence on the world. The US as a failed state would be a pretty shitty place to live and leave a damaging gap in the international order. And your imagined socialist utopia is just not going to happen.

I was very surprised to find that by “fairness in the upcoming elections,” they meant each party gets to do a bit of gerrymandering if it so chooses. Which is hardly “fair.”

@atlanticesque I think 'to do xxx' is reasonably interpreted as a statement of intent rather than outcome. ballot questions often use this phrasing, even when the results are debatable, because it gives context for why it's being proposed, and I don't think there's a better way to do that

The galaxy is very big. The empire was constitutional monarchy for 19 years. The outer rim where much of the confederacy was turned into a black hole of imperial installations far from the eyes of the Senate. This is where the Death Star was built… twice. The death of the emperor and the Vader would collapse the political structure but many of the moffs and military leaders could go it alone and hold out for many many years. The first order was born of this. Other warlords could have held out indefinitely. Unless the new republic makes it a priority to go after them. I don’t know if the galaxy has the appetite for that.
