The arbitration win resolves a historical contract dispute and saves Nigeria funds, but it doesn't directly make the Ajaokuta Steel Complex fully operational. The plant is partially active (e.g., light mills), with revival efforts underway—including a recent MoU for military production and planned rehabilitation in Q1 2026. Full steel production remains pending.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has emerged victorious in a long-standing dispute concerning a 1981 contract for civil works at the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Complex. A favorable final award of €185.7m, N4bn was granted on November 11 from a tribunal organised under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre of the Federal High Court. Arbitration was initiated by the claimant, Fougerolle, on December 12, 2022—nearly 18 years after it had terminated the contract on January 30, 2004. Federal Government had previously engaged Pricewaterhouse Coopers to verify any outstanding obligations to Fougerolle following the contract termination. This verification led to the payment of N3,894,600,000.00 to the company through FGN Bonds on September 11, 2006 with indemnity signed by both parties as full payment. Despite this, the company revived its claim more than 16 years and proceeded to court for additional settlements before Nigeria got a favorable and final award against them this month. The outcome demonstrates the current administration’s resolve to resist predatory and opportunistic claims against Nigeria.

I just came back from Nigeria and it was an eye-opener! As someone who works in the media and who launched a media venture to challenge stereotypes and counter dominant narratives, I didn't think I would be affected by all the negative talk that preceded my trip. But, sadly, I did. The moment my friends and family learnt I was travelling to Abuja, I was bombarded by advice to "be careful", "don't walk on your own", "avoid strangers", etc. These phrases would have been ok, had they been the same ones I would hear when announcing I would travel to London, Paris or any other European capital. But they weren't. When I tell my friends and family, I am traveling to Europe, I am swamped with requests for shopping and other expressions of excitement. This time it was all signs of worry and genuine concern. When my flight landed in Abuja, I found myself growing a bit anxious. But the moment I stepped outside of the plane, I realised how silly I was and was actually upset I let stereotypes get to me. I was greeted with "welcome ma" as I walked through the tunnel. At immigration, I was greeted by a very warm female officer who commended my hair :)) - that made my day! As I waited for my luggage, someone approached me asking if I needed help. And as I walked outside looking for the driver who was supposed to pick me up, someone asked if I had his number so he could call him up for me. I've been travelling for most of my life, I lived in 5 different countries across 3 continents, and never in my life have I experienced such warmth and kindness in any other foreign country. I spent lovely three days in Nigeria, two of them were fully occupied with the first African Solutions Journalism Summit (I will write another post about that) and the third day I spent exploring the city and buying lovely artifacts and enjoying Plantain Chips - we need to import these in Egypt! Hosting more international events in Africa must be a priority. We - Africans - should travel more inside the continent and tell each other our truth. I am so sorry i let stereotypes affect me even for a second. Thank you Nigeria for being so warm, kind and hospitable. I will definitely be coming back. Question for Nicki Minaj on her UN speech on Nigeria & thanking Trump - how dare you center only Christians in Nigerian suffering? I’m all for celebrities using their voices for good but her positioning is at the least uninformed & uneducated and at most self-aggrandising. Thanking Trump added insult to injury.

Randy, your entire claim collapses the moment you separate individual extremist violence from an entire religion. In fact “Allahu Akbar” is said by 1.8 billion Muslims daily in prayer, at weddings, births, celebrations, even when someone sees a beautiful sunset. So pretending that a universal phrase used by peaceful people across every continent is somehow inherently genocidal isn’t just ignorant, it’s deliberate bigoted and racist incitement. If we want to talk facts, then let’s use real sources instead of your baseless AIPAC-scripted fearmongering you keep pushing:
– October 7 was committed by Hamas, not “Muslims.” Independent investigations confirm this not to mention more investigations have proven Israel’s involvement in Oct 7th including slaughtering their own people, this is fact Israel has admitted to.
– The Druze massacre in Syria was carried out by extremist militias, not by 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide.
– Nigeria’s violence involves multiple armed groups (including Christian militias and criminal gangs), and UN data shows the situation is not a simple religious one, despite the narrative you keep selling. You’re not pointing at patterns at all… No you are cherry-picking tragedies and slapping “Muslims” on them to justify your own racist political agenda on behalf of AIPAC. That’s not security policy at all, that’s pure propagandized hate speech. And the hypocrisy is stomach-turning… You never mention that Israel has killed more children in Gaza in a single year than all global conflicts combined, according to UNICEF, Save the Children, and the UN. You never mention Israeli extremists screaming “Death to Arabs” during pogroms in the West Bank. You never mention how Israeli schools teach kids “the only good Arab is a dead one” or “all Muslims are guilty.” You never mention the documented ethnic cleansing, settler violence, and genocidal language that your office constantly defends. Why?
Because your job isn’t about the truth… it’s running cover for a government whose actions you refuse to hold to the same standard. If you actually cared about stopping atrocities, you’d condemn anyone who targets civilians… not just the ones who fit your talking points. But you don’t and never will because you don’t care, You push a false narrative designed to dehumanize Muslims so you can justify more violence abroad and more fear at home. So let’s call you and your content exactly what it is..
A racist, bigoted, fear-manufacturing lie from an uneducated brainwashed politician who has built his career on demonizing Muslims while whitewashing the crimes of a foreign state. You’re not protecting anyone, Randy, you’re fueling hate and are exactly what’s wrong with America! Knowledge is power and you have 0 fact to stand on!

Muslims screaming Allahu Akbar genocided Jews on October 7, 2023.

Muslims screaming Allahu Akbar genocided the Druze in Syria on April 28, 2025.

Muslims screaming Allahu Akbar are genociding Christians in Nigeria right now.

How many more religions are we going to allow Muslims to kill while screaming Allahu Akbar before we do something about it?
