@LisaWattYEG Thanks for the comment. Why wouldn’t they have a choice? Most mature communities have at least 75% single family homes.

In 2015, I heard many of the same concerns raised when the #yegcc of the day approved the subdivision of 50’ lot to allow ‘skinny’ homes. Many people suggested that their neighbourhood would be destroyed by 2 skinny homes replacing the previous single home. #yeg

@AndrewKnack And when I say no choice, the less mature neighbourhoods with single family homes don't have any room in their schools. What's a family to do?

@AndrewKnack Most families can't compete with what developers can and will pay. They own the Grovenor market now and it's really sad.

@AndrewKnack Currently owned homes in Grovenor, mostly single family. Nearly every bungalow that we've seen go on the market in the last 6-12 months havebeen bought by developers building 8plexes. We have friends that can't get into the neighbourhood because they are outbid by developers.

@AndrewKnack Buyers who are looking for a single family home will have no choice but to leave Edmonton. They'll join the suburbs that benefit from the perks of a suburban community without paying COE taxes.

@AndrewKnack I would have never thought that skinny homes would have destroyed our neighborhood. But the 8plexes will. Every single family home in Grovenor is being bought by developers and turned into multi unit rentals. Property owners that have no vested interest in the community.

@AndrewKnack Every bungalow that sells to a developer is one one less home to be owned by a real person/family. They are renting units in these 6-8 plexes for over $2000 a month. If the COE thinks that a family is going to live in an overpriced unit with no yard they are insane

@AndrewKnack Our local school is currently thriving with families that have purchased affordable homes in the neighborhood. This is no more. We have friends with kids that can't get into the neighborhood because developers are paying cash with no conditions on every bungalow that comes up
