@anneschuth In UK government a lot of people write and publish weeknotes, any chance you'll do something similar?

Loved this mantra from @Lisa_Koeman's Pecha Kucha: “Whatever you do, don’t simplify. Honour the mess”

How can you decide on a role or career without knowing what the day-to-day work looks like? I analysed what an average week in my role as a Principal UX Researcher looks like lisakoeman.nl/blog/calendar-…

@NilavraB @ACM_CHIIR @jaceksg That sounds very interesting, would love to hear about the research eventually! Honoured that the meta-analysis played a small part in developing the idea

Intrigued by this meta-analysis, we proposed a longitudinal study on #SearchAsLearning (SAL) at @ACM_CHIIR #CHIIR2021 Doctoral Consortium. Feeling blessed to learn today that R1 was "thrilled" by our idea. 🚀🚀

I analysed 1014 HCI/UX research studies and... I worry about the short-term nature of most research. Are we learning the right things? #CHI2020 lisakoeman.nl/blog/hci-ux-re…

@dgfctr @lickablecities Interesting. Citations of academic papers are not a priority for me, so citing the blog post if it was useful is 💯

@Lisa_Koeman Do you have a favorite publication you have written? I don't want your name (and your fantastic work) to be overlooked because it is not a standard peer reviewed journal article. I try to practice political/feminist citation regimen. (See below an example). @lickablecities

@Lisa_Koeman This is fascinating. How do I cite this (and you)? If the work in unpublished so far, I would like to cite something else of yours.

@PhoebeSengers @saysvera Ah yes, of course, I loved your Data Rhetoric and Uneasy Alliances pictorial. The others are now on my reading list too.

@Lisa_Koeman My group does historical research to design based on long-term technological impact. @saysvera, e.g., is using analyzing union battles with scientific management in the '40's to inform worker advocacy in data-driven workplaces. Your work helps us frame why this matters.

@PhoebeSengers Thank you, Phoebe! The original intention was just that: to have some data to help inform study length/participant decisions. Hadn't quite anticipated these findings, a 'this is how you do it' narrative didn't feel entirely right. I'd love to know how you end up using it.

@Lisa_Koeman Wow, this is really helpful, not only for thinking about where methods should change, but also for helping students calibrate 'how much is enough.' I've long thought about the short-term-ness of most studies but it's great to have empirical evidence.

@e_mln_e All this info is written up in such wildly different ways that I didn't see any other option. If only there was method metadata! Good excuse to look at every paper though.

@5tuartreeves @StevenHouben @tripsandflips_ @martacecchinato Not sure if this is what you mean, but if it was a study where people were interviewed during/after x months of using/doing a thing, I've counted the x months, not the interview time. That only works in a study setup though, you may be referring to studying 'real life' practices?

@heenrik Don't think those have to be concerning, it's about studies not necessarily papers - so a paper can have multiple small studies. There can be many valid reasons for small numbers of participants. I think the big picture is more interesting than focusing on individual studies :)

@heenrik Yes, just CHI2020, and no paper - the benefit of not being in academia is being able to just publish a blog post ;) But I agree some more comparison would be worthwhile, also with related research fields. Maybe!
