Six years ago today, I submitted my #philosophy dissertation. It’s not the favorite thing I’ve written. Not by far. A word of advice to all the grad students tempted by perfectionism in their dissertations: just get the job done! ✅

I popped down to Soho today. An already notoriously difficult area (for its lack of dropped kerbs) has been made trickier with outdoor seating blocking pavements. I support the hospitality sector and understand the need for outdoor seats, but please leave room for wheelies!

My aim is to get you to read a book by Karl Marx called Capital, Volume I, and to read it on Marx's own terms... one of his terms, I can assure you, is that you read, and read carefully. Real learning always entails a struggle to understand the unknown.

@philosophybites 'Kierkegaard’s Cupboard' should be the title of your quirky little book about Kierkegaard. You know, an Alain de Bottom type thing, with recipes, hair-styling tips, and superficial applications of his ideas to modern problems.

Kierkegaard’s cupboard. He had it made after he had rejected Regine Olsen because she then said she would live in a cupboard and thank him for it. So it has no shelves. He stored mementoes of her and books inspired by her there...Sad and a little weird.
