Six years ago today, I submitted my #philosophy dissertation. It’s not the favorite thing I’ve written. Not by far. A word of advice to all the grad students tempted by perfectionism in their dissertations: just get the job done! ✅

We will not accept these job cuts. We will not let them happen. What to do: - Vote YES in the e-ballot for all forms of industrial action (see email) - Attend the branch meeting tomorrow (Wed 29th) at 12.30 - Come to regular action committees to build the fightback. 4/4

I popped down to Soho today. An already notoriously difficult area (for its lack of dropped kerbs) has been made trickier with outdoor seating blocking pavements. I support the hospitality sector and understand the need for outdoor seats, but please leave room for wheelies!

@profdavidharvey I may give it a go, but I have a question: Do what degree do you think "difficult writing" is a manner that disenfranchises neurodiverse and foreign-(non-western) language communities?

It is your own personal encounter with this text that I want to encourage, and by struggling directly with Marx's text, you can begin to shape your own understanding of his thought.

My aim is to get you to read a book by Karl Marx called Capital, Volume I, and to read it on Marx's own terms... one of his terms, I can assure you, is that you read, and read carefully. Real learning always entails a struggle to understand the unknown.

@kierancutting (Maybe off topic? : I wrote this for my students when we asked them to design "a (university) library of the future". They did some cool stuff (albeit a bit solutionist). It inspired me to write a response of my own; and some of them really reacted well to this.)

@philosophybites 'Kierkegaard’s Cupboard' should be the title of your quirky little book about Kierkegaard. You know, an Alain de Bottom type thing, with recipes, hair-styling tips, and superficial applications of his ideas to modern problems.

Kierkegaard’s cupboard. He had it made after he had rejected Regine Olsen because she then said she would live in a cupboard and thank him for it. So it has no shelves. He stored mementoes of her and books inspired by her there...Sad and a little weird.
