@LittleSorrel862 @patristicpill @JohnSmithdzz7 Nobody said the strawman argument you are implying. The point i was making is that expecting men to accept being a penitent remarriage or disregard a woman’s history while allowing divorced women and single mothers to maintain a criteria of standards is obnoxious.

@4runner404 @patristicpill @JohnSmithdzz7 The woman you’re criticizing appears to be childless and never married, so I’m not sure how that comes into the picture. Everyone has a criteria of standards, but if you’re unhappy being single, it may be time to consider adjusting them.

Being a faithful Christian is insufficient to get you a wife. The fact that a man attends church regularly and has identical religious to a woman has almost no bearing on whether she will want to marry him. If you are a religious guy who is struggling, you need to become attractive and desirable as a spouse in the same ways that make people attractive in the secular world.
Philipp@PhilippOfHesse

You’ll be shocked to learn that the preferences and dealbreakers of young orthodox women are identical to those of secular women

@patristicpill @JohnSmithdzz7 @katherineortho The worst part is that women like this will weaponize St. Mary of Egypt to express their own repentance with God🤦🏻‍♂️ Like.. noo. Mary became a celibate nun after repenting for her sexual immorality. You’re expecting a man to marry and accept your reputation. That’s not the same.

@LW1307 @macaron_luver @DueinMed @zulu_brah That’s your choice, and I hope it works out for you. For most folks, limiting their dating pool to virgin tradwives open to marrying older, non-virgin men is going to dramatically increase their odds of being permanently celibate. To each their own I guess.

@FrenlyOfficer Women need to lose all rights. They cannot have a credit card. Bank accounts are linked to their father, brothers, or husband. They cannot vote. They are to dress respectfully. They are to act respectfully. They are property of their father or brothers until they are married

Hemingway was a strong Catholic. His religion came mainly from the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. He told me several times that if there was no Bible, was no man-made Church laws, the apparitions proved beyond any doubt that the Catholic Church was the true church. - G. Herter.

@MattKleinOnline I'll give you one better, who enforces the decision? What if the decision is ignored (i.e, the governor implements the maps)? What if the state court composition is different after that election? Who would VA Republicans appeal to, God?

@veach54608 @DanRiffle Yeah they were definitely different albums. The x rated albums were a lot more obviously satire than Johnny Reb’s stuff.

I grew up in East Tennessee. My mom had David Allen Coe’s X rated album, and all his good stuff. I first heard it when I was like 9yo. DAC was not “complicated.” He was a terrible person who wrote and sang a ton of great songs. Separate art from artist.

@DanRiffle he's so proud of his beliefs that he denies that album until it's time to collect the money. his quote of "johny rebel is not david allan coe" is telling. i booked him once and he was a total fuck face and looked like he died on the car ride over. lessons learned.

@ThirdWayMattB @shannonrwatts Honestly, they aren’t worried at all. They are gerrymandering, ICEing, and straight up suppressing enough votes to keep their majority. And if that were to somehow fail, they all know either Trump will suspend elections or have his pocket SCOTUS cancel any results he chooses.

@jrcabral @shagbark_hick We already have a major shortage of priests. How do you prevent priests from living alone without massively reducing the neighbor of areas with priests?

@shagbark_hick More priests in residence means, or at least should mean, more Mass times, more opportunities for adoration and confession. This is what your family will need on an ongoing basis.

A lot of why I ever appear to be "all over the place" with regards to our family's future comes from seeing the writing on the wall for rural Catholicism. I know the Parish here is likely to close in the next decade or so. Median age is 60+. 50% of Parishes in our Diocese are operating in the red. We've done "linkages" between Parishes, we have Priests driving around like mad, offering Masses at 3-4 Churches per week, sometimes more. They're exhausted. There are almost no young families here, and of the couple that are here, none appear to be devout. KofC chapter is a handful of geriatrics; Parish events are fairly irregular and attended strictly by the elderly, etc etc. Moreover, you can never be sure whether a Priest is going to stick around. He might get moved; his replacement may or may not be especially orthodox. If a Priest moves, some Parishioners will go to another Parish if they don't like the replacement; others will start coming because they like the new Priest. So there's a big shakeup; it's unstable. What are the real options? If we stay and fight and try to save this Parish, the odds are against us. Financial realities being what they are, closure seems likely, especially as the remaining Parishioners continue to get old and pass away. The Priest also isn't here often, he's very busy with the other 3 Parishes he takes care of; we're kind of "on our own." We could try to move to a bigger town in the Adirondacks -- such as Tupper Lake -- but even there, there are no guarantees. They have an African Priest there who will probably move at some point; daily Mass may be cancelled, in 20 years, who knows what the scene is going to be like there. We could drive ~35min in clear weather (much longer during foul winter weather) to a nearby Diocesan TLM, but physical distance from the Parish would limit our engagement there pretty seriously, and we'd have to keep a car for years, which is a major expense. We could move to Port Henry, where there is a very traditional and brilliant Priest who I would trust with my life as well as my childrens' formation -- but who knows if he'll stay there long. If we did that we'd have to be ready to move whenever he did; we could just sort of "follow" him whenever he moves, I guess. We could move to Ogdensburg, by the Cathedral, but the community there is decidedly weak, and there's no certainty the Diocese won't eventually be merged with Syracuse. We could move back to the Mohawk Valley, back to civilization, where real estate is expensive and there's more development, more noise, more crowds. And there we know of two TLM's, a reverent Novus Ordo, and three Eastern Catholic Churches all in the greater Utica area. It's the best bet from a religious standpoint, but it means leaving the Adirondacks... (similar could be said of the new ICKSP in Oswego) There are no good answers here; I'm always kind of unnerved by the recognition that by living here (or places like it), our childrens' religious formation hangs in the balance. So it has me constantly scanning the horizon for other places to be where things might be more stable.
