@JamesMartinSJ @NPR Just listened to it. Wonderful! Thank you for your openness.

Dear friends: I was so happy to be invited to Wild Card with Rachel Martin on @NPR. Rachel asked me several surprising questions and I had a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy it! youtube.com/watch?v=wU_rma…

@OSeanClouds Wow, that was well said. Thank you.

Is it advantageous to have psychopaths/narcissists in particular roles in society?
Roles such as surgery, law, the military, psychology, commerce?
The simple answer to this question is no.
My PhD data indicates the risk of having dark personalities in roles of responsibility is too high because of their powerful drive to meet their own agendas first and foremost, their need for control, their sadistic delight in demeaning, provoking, humiliating disadvantaging and harming others, their drivenness to deceive and their predatory nature.
This data emerged strongly from my PhD research canvassing views of those working long-term with narcissists/psychopaths and their victims in both forensic and non-forensic contexts, in fields such as medicine, business, the military, religion, law-enforcement etc.
An example from my own work involves a culture change project with a large medical/health organization. A surgeon there was a narcissist/psychopath. They did excellent surgery, but also threw scalpels around the operating room, pitted staff against one another, used bullying and intimidation in theatre, engaged in limited before and after care, allowed residents to take on too much responsibility when they had personal commitments and so on. The risks are high! It is hit and miss.

Don’t love the preemptive pardons. I appreciate the desire to protect public servants from Trump’s lawless threats, but it suggests guilt, sets a dangerous precedent and necessarily omits others who are at risk.

@Littlechickadd @yourauntemma Yes. I think I just need to believe that it's not necessary to become a monster to be powerful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
English

@accidntlmystic @yourauntemma Kind of like the old “nature/nurture” question - probably both
English

@Littlechickadd @yourauntemma Yes. For some reason I want to believe that access to power doesn't turn people into psychopaths. Instead, I think there are other factors: psychopaths crave power; power gives them permission to be honest about what they are, and, act accordingly.
English

@accidntlmystic @yourauntemma Carolyn, I agree. Also as they rise, they have more skin in the game, so are more likely to act badly to protect their power and cover up institutional misdeeds. This is why integrity is so important in top leadership but also can be a factor keeping them rising to the top.
English

@yourauntemma Could it be that people with latent psychopathic tendencies find themselves empowered to unleash them a little more, with each step up the ladder of status & power?
English

Always was a hard YES for @EliseStefanik but it was a pleasure to have a conversation.
I support defunding UNRWA for its documented Hamas infiltration and fully look forward to her holding the @UN accountable for its endemic antisemitism and blatant anti-Israel views.

Thank you to @SenFettermanPA for hosting a very productive meeting where we discussed our shared commitment to standing with Israel and combating antisemitism. Senator Fetterman shared his ideas for strong national security leadership and I highlighted my ideas on implementing President @realDonaldTrump's America First peace through strength national security agenda.

@TurtlesongFarm I thought this was going to be a terrible story and so gratified to read about these two good people.
English

@MargaretOG66351 I agree with you 💯 about the elderly and also people with a variety of visual and neurological impairments can’t cope either. The worst part is there’s no way for them to access human beings. Another example of corporate greed.

@narceducator @ChrisDJackson @chucktodd Scores? He’s already killed millions just with his homicidal handling of COVID.
English

@ChrisDJackson @chucktodd Neither Joe nor Hunter Biden is a sociopath but Trump is a clear dark tetrad: malignant narcissist/narcissistic psychopath. The normalization of Trump’s pathology by the media will be the death of democracy and scores of people.
English

These are wholly inappropriate comments from @chucktodd. What the hell is wrong with you man?

@karenmitchell__ @Anne_Arbor Dr, do you think dark personalities see themselves as dark personalities? Or, are they so busy creating a fake outward persona they don’t see the disconnect & feel justified in their actions, e.g., “you made me act this way.”
English

@Anne_Arbor Not all dark personalities are charismatic. I think this is a misnomer that has been promoted by dark personalities who are not charismatic so as to point the arrow away from them. Certainly some are very charismatic, but some are dull and understated.
English

Dark personalities (narcissists/psychopaths), particularly those who are higher functioning, look & sound normal.
They: are Mums & Dads, go to sports matches, do good deeds, are helpful, buy groceries at the store, eat at restaurants, seem kind, chat quite normally about their last holiday or their house renovations or their pets.
They also happily destroy people emotionally, mentally, reputationally, socially, financially, professionally.
In fact, they set out to destroy people long before their targets are aware of the pain they are eventually to endure.
We need to get a whole lot better as a human race at understanding the red flags of dark personalities or the mass harm that is currently being inflicted on millions will continue & potentially increase in this world of globalization.
