I’ve missed interacting with everyone in the Livable City community. Wanted to let you know that I’m still alive and contemplating what to do next with LC. It’s been a rough, emotional year but there’s so much needed work to be done. What are everyone’s thoughts? #livablecity

Let's make it happen! Would be transformational for getting more people in Chicago to walk, bike, and ride transit to get where they need to go. 🚶🚲🚍🚉🌎❤️

A bittersweet day. I no longer have the energy or time to put into Livable City. Instead of just shutting it down I'd like to see if anyone is interested in owning it? I am offering this Twitter account as well as the website/domain. DM if interested. #livablecity #opportunity

If nobody wants to take over the Twitter handle or website, it would be a shame, but I'll have to shut it all down.

@BarmanNYC “Streets and their sidewalks, the main public places of a city, are its most vital organs. Think of a city and what comes to mind? Its streets. If a city’s streets look interesting, the city looks interesting; if they look dull, the city looks dull.” - Jane Jacobs – Death & Life

Way to go @ILBicycleLaw! It’s unbelievable that pedestrians and cyclists are routinely held responsible for being injured when the system of transportation is fundamentally designed against our human safety - it prioritizes car/truck speed/throughput. Completely backwards.
Mike Keating | Injury Attorney@mikekeatinglaw

Keating Law attorney Catelyn Viggiano with her $212,976.85 verdict at the scene of the dooring on the Washington Street protected bike lane. In her first trial as first chair, Catelyn got a result for 400% of the insurance company’s “best offer.”#bikeCHI #womeninlaw

@AldermanLaSpata Like seeing more housing, especially affordable units, by why so many car parking spaces? Without as many the entire unit could be even more affordable and fit several more units in.

Raised bike lane with parking on Commonwealth Avenue near Boston University — very nice. Let’s do this on Clark Street in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. H/T @StreetsblogMASS

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 & replaced it with a restored stream & 1000 acre park in the city’s centre, not only did it transform the city’s public life & economic success, but the traffic got better. The traffic got BETTER.

A century of male-dominated planning has resulted in streets shaped for one purpose: the commute to paid work. Only when cities start taking into account the other unpaid “care trips” taken by residents do they become more inclusive and gender equitable. anchor.fm/storktalks/epi…

Building this community? More like building the cycling city. We talked with @modacitylife to find out how better transportation systems and prioritizing people can impact a city.

Cities are quite good at measuring and accommodating the journeys people make on a given day. But what if they started quantifying and enabling the trips people DON’T take; places they would visit were it not for their unsafe, uncomfortable, inconvenient (or inexistent) options?
