An update because there's always more to the story. In this June 2023 letter Ald. Reilly says he will not approve any future extended outdoor dining permits on Clark Street. Currently, he's pointing his finger at the Mayor's Office.

@hypotheticMatty @YIMBYLAND I'll second that, the amount of skyscraper building is insane in Chicago, and not just in West Loop - follow the Halsted St corridor north over the next 3-5 years.

@BrandTran @the_transit_guy Same here in Chicago. Regional public transit, outside of planes and run down buses, is really pretty terrible in the US.

@the_transit_guy The constant reduction in public transit service, and the difficulty in making impromptu day trips to other cities and nature.

@DaRagingLunatic What other languages have you worked with? If Rust is your first systems-like language, I can understand why this feels a bit hard. My suggestion is to find a way that works for you, go with it to solve a problem, and over time you'll keep learning better patterns to solve them.

@jhodapp Some exercises im doing in learning rust is like: “three materials, wood, tile, carpet, at different costs, $10, $15, $20 per square meter. Work out the total for a job”. Basic maths. Easy to do and fast. But nooo you have to implement traits and function calls on the values held

@DaRagingLunatic Thank you very much, I'm really glad you enjoyed my article. Rust *is* a hard language, but keep at it. You'll find yourself becoming exponentially more productive in it over time and the concepts won't seem as hard. But you have to keep going and practice frequently.
