Steel is one of the most difficult industries to decarbonise. In our briefing, we aimed to summarise the available and emerging tech which could reduce emissions from steelmaking, and the infrastructure and policy framework which could support a “green steel” industry in the UK.

As an earthquake scientist, it's difficult when events of this magnitude occur - I can't get "excited" about an earthquake which has caused huge numbers of fatalities and extensive damage...

Yesterday, I received this email from a senior academic. It's about my first lead author paper. This kind of 'feedback' is discouraging and doesn't encourage the kind of constructive discussions I'd like to have about my work. It can't be acceptable to send emails like this.

My wonderful friends made me a viva cake celebrating my cancelled fieldwork plans in Indonesia, including accurate topography and tectonics.
Just one more reason to do field work there one day 😅
