For liberals, it is easier to blame “fascism” (or “white rural rage,” or “deplorables,” or “Christian nationalists”) for causing our country’s problems than the deregulatory, financialized, and militarist neoliberalism of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Those liberal priorities helped give rise to the modern right — but to admit that, liberal elites would have to reexamine the premises of their politics, and soul-searching is far less enjoyable than rallying against an unambiguous enemy.

Came to #Arizona to #KnockDoors in the final days of the election. Amazing volunteer turnout for the #Democrats here. Went by the #Republican county office today. It wasn’t even open! They aren’t even trying to persuade here. Remember that when they try to steal it instead.

I'm urging the Justice Department to investigate whether Elon Musk and his PAC are violating federal law by offering cash prizes for voter registration. If the actions prove to be illegal, the Justice Department must take appropriate enforcement action, including prosecution.

We had the great honor last week of hosting Vladimir Kara-Murza at @DartmouthDickey. What a gift for all of us that he is now free. Speaking with him gave me hope about a democratic future for Russia, since remarkable people are still working to make that real.

Vladimir Kara-Murza accepts the Pulitzer Prize for commentary. He wrote columns for the @washingtonpost from a Russian prison, was freed in the prisoner swap last summer

@MatinaStevis Agree. I was blown away by the history that museum housed and have wondered a lot in the past year about its fate. Very sad to hear this but not surprised.

Devastating. I loved visiting this museum and was floored by the artifacts. A tremendous collection. Many were sadly kept in a haphazard state, particularly proto-Christian art on the first floor. Some pictures from my 2017 visit follow...

Priceless artefacts looted from Sudan’s National Museum. Fighters have taken away boxes of ancient statues, vases and other items in the capital, Khartoum, over the past year, according to senior museum staff. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@DanDePetris Hey Dan, thanks for sharing your struggles. Recognizing the normality of these kinds of challenges helps everyone else who deals with them. You’re a power house. Here if you need an ear or someone to talk to.

🖤I’m going to do something totally random by getting personal. Why not? I’m in a reflective mood today. Some of my close friends know this already but like so many people, I’ve struggled with mental health issues my whole life. I have pretty severe OCD and an anxiety disorder. I come from a family that has significant issues with depression, and on one occasion it resulted in tragedy. By virtue of getting older and learning about what does and doesn’t work, I’ve largely been able to manage these struggles—even if they will always remain a challenge. But the anxiety has gotten quite bad lately and I’m having trouble tackling it. It’s overwhelming. I’m not ashamed to say so (although my earlier self would be). It’s dominating even the most mundane periods of the day, when I’m just sitting on the couch watching TV or laying in bed reading. Ultimately, I’ll find a way to get back on the horse and find strategies to address the problem (when or how, I’m not entirely sure yet). But I suppose acknowledging it is the first step, so that’s a morsel of progress. I guess what’s I’m saying is that maintaining your mental health is a never-ending journey. The work never stops.

At a certain point, long since past, the Biden administration needs to face the fact that it’s still arming a military that is intentionally killing #Palestinians and anyone trying to help them endure this hell.

@kahixo Two weeks on from a mishap slicing an apple, when I did not go to urgent care, my thumb is still slowly working its way back together. Probably should have gone for glue or stitches. But at least I was a bit more … original? 🤔
