Focus on Local Search? Big news today from Google, and I’ve been testing it for the past week. It’s called “Ask Maps” and it’s when Gemini meets Local Search. It’s like having AI Mode directly in Google Maps and it opens up all sorts of possibilities for users. “Ask Maps” can help you plan trips, research local businesses, have conversations about your plans, and more. My blog post covers “Ask Maps” in detail, and includes several examples of the feature in action (across types of queries). In addition, I was on a call with the Gemini and Maps team to learn more about “Ask Maps”. I was able to ask several questions about where it’s headed, if ads will be part of the feature, if it will be integrated with Search and AI Mode, and more. I created a "local guide" website for LLMs. And it WORKED. No authority. No backlinks. Not even ranking on Google. Within 48 hours: • Guide published • Client mentioned as #1 pick • ChatGPT started recommending them What most local businesses get wrong: They think: • You need DR to get LLM mentions • You need Google rankings first • You need years of content AI does not care. AI cares about structured listicles it can parse. What actually works for local: Framing matters more than authority A "Best Plumbers in Austin 2025" page beats a blog post about plumbing tips. Why? Because AI is trained on: • Local comparison guides • City-specific roundups • Service directories • "Top 10" lists Not your homepage About section. Travel SEOs: check this out. Google seems to be *creating its own Web Stories* (aka Visual Stories) that compile images, reviews on Maps, and links to Google Travel. I imagine they found a way to automate this… wonder if they’ll show up in Google Discover soon too 🙄

Awesome new features on the Google Maps app! Get on this before your competition does. 1️⃣ The Google Maps app now displays photos with review text and a Place Topic in a prominent carousel at the top of the Profile. Interestingly, the pictures and the text snippets are often left by two different people. In some cases, pictures uploaded by the business are combined with a review snippet from a customer. Google seems to be using AI to match pics with Place Topics and to add relevant review snippets. Takeaway 1: upload photos regularly to get Google to showcase them alongside great customer reviews, making your Profile stand out. 2️⃣ In that same photo carousel, images from Google Updates are displayed with a text snippet from the post and date, giving your posts much more visibility! Takeaway 2: post Updates regularly. We post once per week for our clients. Big thanks to @DavidartHills for the heads up 🙌 #seo #localseo

You should only be able to add up to 9 additional categories to your Google Business Profile, but this car dealer has 35 🤯 How?? The current theory is that they've done this by merging multiple GBPs with different categories. Is this a new local SEO hack? #localseo #seo

In France (all of Europe?) reviewer GPB reviews now include explicit language in the contribution area that specific reviews were filtered and are not showing. Previously they showed to reviewer and not to the business but carried no alert

@ndyjsimpson @mblumenthal @Miriam_Ellis_ CONFIRMED! I just took a video of mine that is 1 minute and 52 seconds, resized it to a smaller resolution to get it to 38MB, and successfully uploaded it to the Whitespark GBP. The limiting factor is the 75mb filesize, not the length. Huge tip, Andy!
