@stevedaviesseo Just shows how old news recirculates. Old news but still WTF news. Wonder if the On / Off button works 🤯

@GuideTwit This is a story from February 2023 under the last Tory Government. The distinctly non-communist Reform's Suella Braverman was home secretary.

What communist bullshit is this. The UK has listed books like The Lord of the Rings, The Bridge Over the River Kwai, and Orwell’s 1984 as potential indicators of far-right interest.

Pedro just wrote one of the most honest & accurate pieces about AEO/GEO that I’ve *ever* read. (And TBH - I’ve also been wondering about the “new” framing around Schema markup this whole time. 🫠🫠)
Pedro Dias@pedrodias

"Ensures AI engines can parse and connect your content." That's the SaaS pitch for 'Technical GEO.' Schema. Structured data. Clean architecture. Ensures. LLMs were built to read unstructured language. There's nothing to ensure. Read on The Inference: theinference.io/p/the-whole-po…

I gave this presentation about the Helpful Content Update 2.5 years ago, a couple of months after the September 2023 update rolled out. So why am I sharing it now? Because the patterns I'm seeing right now in SEO/GEO/AEO look and feel exactly like where we were in 2022-2023, before Google rolled out one of the biggest algorithm updates in its history. You can see examples of this in the slides I shared. The same mistakes are getting made now to "try to win in AI Search," and companies are getting burned left and right for trying to scale AI-generated content in ways Google already built systems to suppress. Every day I see a new viral thread on X about someone "discovering" programmatic SEO and sharing their success story. But when you actually look at the site's performance, you see the crash on the other side that never gets publicly shared. Figured I'd share it now, because "what's old is new again." slideshare.net/slideshow/the-…

Here we go. Google has started sending out emails to sites that are actively hijacking the back button. It's a warning with sample urls, links to the blog post about the new spam policy, etc. Google explains it will recheck the site before the June 15, 2026 deadline to see if the site has addressed the situation. Tick tock. :) "No manual action has been taken at this time. We recommend fixing this issue as soon as possible to avoid a potential manual action that could negatively impact your site's performance on Search. Enforcement of this policy is scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026. Note: Changes made on or after April 17, 2026, are not reflected in this notification. We'll re-verify your site’s compliance before any manual action is taken."

Oh boy, I'm not sure publishers will be thrilled with this change -> AI Mode will now open publisher links side by side with AI Mode (versus taking you directly to the publisher website). So both AI Mode and the site will be open at the same time. "Now, when you're using AI Mode on Chrome desktop, clicking a link opens the webpage side-by-side with AI Mode. This makes it much easier to visit relevant websites, compare details and ask follow-up questions while still maintaining the context of your search." blog.google/products-and-p…

Ugh. Google's new AI Mode no longer sends users directly to other sites when they click a link. Instead AI Mode *stays open* while it opens the website in an adjacent window. The user may see your site, but they never leaves Google. Another brick in the walled garden.

Some little bastard has been using AI pictures of me to leave reviews on various businesses all over Coatbridge to the point that I show up when you google the fucking places. He is even getting replies from the fucking owners.
