Remember when Kanye said that Akira was his biggest creative inspiration? Every single stage show, including the Bully show in LA this week, was inspired by Akira. In many ways, Akira is the manga that has had the biggest influence on Western culture. Now you understand why Akira first prints of its manga volumes and Zasshi (from more than 40 years ago) are almost never listed for sale.

One of the best anime or manga collectibles is Akira Manga Volume 1, in First Print Japanese, Edition Kodansha/KC Deluxe. This is the very first tankobon volume of Akira, which in many ways inspired the cyberpunk ethos that so much science fiction, anime, and pop culture more generally has adopted. I’m always looking for this specific volume and printing in a good BGS grade. There were only around 30,000 of these printed in 1984, so first prints from more than 40 years ago are very hard to come by. Especially in good grades.
