@teortaxesTex When did this account morph from good, sometimes prescient (if a bit eager) AI takes to debates with another set of funny guys trying to rediscover Guns, Germs and Steel (also a scam) from first principles with a sprinkle of eugenetics on top lol.

all contemporary stuff aside, I think that religions are best understood as frameworks for gene-culture coevolution. Confucianism was a good project, on par with Judaism and Catholicism. Hinduism was *the worst one in history*, so catastrophically evil that it boggles the mind.

More to the point I think Indians have some civilizational achievements, a fraction of the stuff they kang about counts as that. But bluntly – they have historically had less state capacity, less ability to coordinate and to diffuse tech, just less tech. Now that they're a giant nation state, it matters. I also find loathsome their addiction to kanging about purely introspective achievements (like their philosophy and Dharmic religion being more profound than Chinese analogies). I don't even disagree, Advaita alone > Daoism as an intellectual exercise. It took *me* a lot of time to understand that Confucianism, which the Chinese are really about and which they exported widely and deliberately tried to teach others, is not merely a systematization of rites and rules of conduct but a people-cultivation program. I think that fundamentally, religious philosophy is as much a means of coordinating people as an ontological research program. And socially, these philosophies are infrastructures and eugenic programs: they introduce inductive biases to gene-culture coevolution, govern reproduction of ideas, forms of relationship and types of human being. Confucians, with the entire infrastructure from filial piety to imperial exams to concubinage and rules of inheritance, were in effect seeking to breed a particular high type of a human, the Junzi, and they had largely succeeded, such that they no longer need to practice it – they and the rest of Sinosphere do have an extraordinarily studious, industrious, intelligent population with abnormal impulse control. Vedas are preoccupied with maintaining varnas, in effect providing reproductive DEI via guaranteed arranged marriages and tiered izzat UBI to everyone. And I can't see this more charitably as just a program of defending post-Aryan invasion power ranking from dissolution, keeping a small minority exalted wordcels with ritual purity and profoundly beautiful takes or certain warrior ethos, and the rest some kind of domestic staff pool in a largely subhuman condition and the carrot of reincarnating into a higher varna without actual genetic transmission if they play ball. They, too, have succeeded. Confucians are on par with Catholics with their Church and West European Marriage Pattern and Ashkenazi Jews with their Talmud and communal support for scholars, in their functional achievement of building a population that's excellent in some important ways relative to global starting point 3-8 thousand years ago, and above them due to the sheer size of the program. Indians had succeeded to create a few great lineages, a few million people total, and on the broad population level had been, at best, treading water. There's not much ancient DNA to be studied, due to the climate, but I predict that if we find enough useful samples, we'll see that the ancient Subcontinentals were about as good as modern ones. So while I grant that Indians had really cool ideas about the nature of reality or consciousness, I feel that they'd be better off today if they never had any. ---- Your opinion on this

@Ruesavatar You do understand that average temperatures for France by month are well known and there's no such thing as a "7 month winter", right? Half of the country has basically barely 2 months of proper winter. People had mastered fire a while earlier than the industrial revolution.

Had the biggest drop-off of followers today that I have had in ages- I guess people don’t like when someone decides it is silly to outright hate capitalism. Whoops! Heheh. Totally unrelated, but look at this fun anecdote about early 19th century french peasants..

what are your theories why tpot doesn't talk about environmentalism? someone asked me this and my guesses were: - too object-level - too leftist-coded; even tho most of tpot is more left than right, being openly leftist is kind of a faux pas - something around privilege

@VraserX - Intrinsically scarce resources that can be still cornered by some explicit or implicit alliance become exceedingly expensive, these can be the most incredible things: -- Rare Earths -- Apartments in walkable neighborhoods -- Hotness (both sexes)

@VraserX What actually is more likely to happen is that: - Capitalism's alliance with Liberalism (of all stripes) turns out to be just a temporary thing, just due to the fact that Liberalism as ideology had more or less cornered the market for intelligence.

Capitalism runs on scarcity. Labor is scarce, so wages exist. Goods are scarce, so markets ration them. AI breaks that engine. When intelligence + labor become effectively free, the logic of capitalism collapses. The question isn’t if we move beyond labor economics, it’s how. Do we cling to an obsolete system until it breaks violently, or design a new model where wealth is tied to dignity, access, and creativity instead of “jobs”?

@AndrewHammel1 End of the day simply the cost/benefit profile is very different for LA 29C August and 200-300mm walls, vs Paris 26C August and 600-800mm walls, not just the urban elites being crazy ideologues.

@AndrewHammel1 Continuing on this, many many moneyed Euros live in places with properly _thick_ walls that have ginormous amounts of thermal inertia. I know because I lived in a Haussmannian Parisian flat and unless a heatwave is more than 7 days long, you simply do not feel it inside.

1/ A thread about the class dynamics of air-conditioning in Europe. I believe attitudes toward air-conditioning are class markers in many European countries. Air-conditioning is seen as prototypically American, and that's important.

@AndrewHammel1 To be clear I had A/C myself in Italy and tried to get it in most European countries where I lived because it's the smart choice and also the lowest energy consumption, but still it's not uniquely a class signifier thing.

this is allowed to matter when I feel the negative space into which I speak this obvious truth—one that feels socially safer to say now than it did a few days ago, but still edgy—I anticipate people believing that stating this obvious fact somehow makes me cruel. so let me be clear: I'm not saying fitness matters for dignity. but it is sensible to appoint someone healthy to handle matters of health. obviously. and it requires rationalization to not be able to acknowledge that this is obviously true. it's not the only thing that matters, but it matters. (I looked up other pics of her and this is representative—and the first google image result, actually—not a deliberately bad photo. the original had her in B&W and I fixed that to make a fairer comparison.)

I don’t think Trump is going to do anything crazy in regard to abortion, contraception, divorce, etc. That’s not his brand, that’s not the kind of conservative he’s ever been, and he knows it’s deeply unpopular. I believe the plan is to focus on economy, immigration, health, and foreign policy so that he can become a well liked administration and then get JD in office in 2028 which is when all of this Heritage Foundation trad psychosis will begin

my childhood background was deeply activist hyper-environmentalist leftist organic farmer parents. my teenage years were a intellectual backdrop of lesswrong and SSC, meaning mostly "politics is the mindkiller" then: - 2015 supreme court ruling on gay marriage. made me realize how incredibly important it was to me that ppl i loved could live how they wanted to, shifted me towards political action - reading inadequate equilibria. made me viscerally pro-capitalism, impossible to ignore or forget. - banning of american sniper from my college when some students wanted to do an innocent showing. made me realize for the first time that young progressive activists weren't just overzealous, they were actively stupid and dangerous - the NYT slate star codex debacle. full radicalization against journalists, the democratic establishment, and speech norms. - covid, clearly showing me that regardless of party government is totally fucking incompetent. - gpt-3 showing me that artificial intelligence alignment was a short term political issue, not just something for eliezer and my children to worry about - october 7th. anyway i remain a blue tinged ai safetyist transhumanist anti-trad anti-disgust reaction capital allocatoooor speech loving grey triber and one day i hope to get to vote for someone who represents even a fraction of my values

Scorched Earth Policy@Scearpo·
Mentally damaged (involved in politics) women love freaking out about their bodily autonomy because it represents the perfect intersection between subconscious fetishism and the addiction to neuroticism that defines their identity. They lash out against their own biological purpose as a hellish prison in which they must suffer. The prospect of reproduction isn’t a natural part of life’s process to them, it is a hellish imposition. To the worldly hag, a womb and fetus is a xenomorph, a parasite growing inside of them rather than a beautiful continuation of self and predecessor. It is the gruesome promise of labor, sacrifice, and time which inconveniences otherwise unmitigated indulgence. It stands to reason that someone so filled with petulance for their ancestors, contempt for their parents, and hate for themselves would be horrified to create a copy, especially at the expense of their own body, time, and effort. When even the act of smiling at a coffee shop job is reduced to an economic unit of emotional labor to be stingily withheld by the leftist materialist, a child must seem like a nuclear bomb of unpayable debt. Yet all this pales in comparison to the psychosexual element of this nightmare fantasy, one which was usefully summarized by the Handmaiden Netflix slop. Essentially, America’s army of mids came forth to proclaim loudly, “Please please please don’t hold us down and rapebreed us!” Over and over again with obnoxious transparency, met with the mildly disgusted indifference of the demographic they demonize. This country’s most unremarkable women obsess over this idea that we’re tracking their periods, we’re trying to figure out their cycles, that we’re hunting them down and forcing them to reproduce because they can’t conflate the reality of their biological programming demanding fulfillment through genetic self perpetuation with the myriad of social signifiers they’ve been taught to uphold. It creates psychological complexes which become transmogrified into political policy. The truth is, what actually horrifies these women far more than some elaborate government mandated impregnation fantasy is something far more sinister. It is an apocalyptic torturous fate which has no recourse through delusion or fantasy. There is no romanticizing it or exaggerating it for entertainment, nor is there some True Crime podcast esque morbid indulgence which can be applied to it. The greatest fear made manifest for women of this caliber is to be ignored. It is their nightmare to be totally ignored, dismissed, overlooked, left behind. To be left alone without even any deliberate focus or afterthought, truly just passed by and left to their own babbling. To have everything they care about, everything they present as their identity, belief, concerns, goals, preferences, personality, and purpose all evaporated into dust through the sheer overwhelming void of indifference. It is a horror which is happening to them every day.
