I've got to figure out my post-sale process. Sold a dryer to an older customer 2 days ago. He calls today, "it's not working right." Now I've got a choice: Push onto warranty for repair and move on or Drive over, troubleshoot, maybe swap it out and lose money But keep customer. This is the part no one talks about as a small business owner.

@donnyyoung That's how I get all my reviews. So far all 5 stars. Positive interaction = I proactively leave them a 5 star review and let them know I would appreciate the same whenever they have time. So far, 73 in return

Lady had put down a $20 deposit for a daybed that i was to deliver in a couple of days. She changed her mind due to some personal circumstances. Told me to keep the deposit. I wasn't actually out anything, so it was no problem to refund. Would you have kept the deposit if she offered?

Great problem to have, but, we are selling our manifested pallets as soon as we make them. Maybe I need to check the price....? Ha! I'll have toys rolling out tomorrow as well as electronics, health & beauty and food next week, which I'll post here first. We process 100,000 units a week and make pallets daily, perhaps some type of notification system for customers is need (beyond email) when a new one is created. Anyone have any ideas?

We spent $15,000 on billboards targeting one person: the guy controlling all the chemical spend at a saltwater disposal company in Texas. We mapped his commute and bought every billboard between his house and the oil field. When we finally called, he said "I see your billboards everywhere." That landed us our first oil field contract. At the time our entire operation was a $10,000 reactor built from PVC pipes from Home Depot, turning corn sugar into industrial chemicals. People keep trying to throw it away. It still works. That leaking reactor started a multibillion-dollar company. @ycombinator visited our plant in Houston. The original PVC reactor is still on the floor next to the Bioforge.

There’s a small crawlspace on the house I’m flipping right now How can I keep the pipes from freezing in Ohio? There’s baseboard heat, but I was thinking about just running a little red heat bulb down there Do I need to worry about this?

@LogHanRatings Wheaton went undefeated in the regular season in '14, '15, and '19. I was on 2 of those teams and my brother on the other.

This (mean?) comment got me curious, so I checked. 8-2 is in fact their most common record. They've had the 7th-best win% in the country since 1997, and they've only managed 2 undefeated regular seasons (and in one of those seasons their biggest rival won the national title).

After managing thousands of Google Business Profiles, we’ve noticed a clear pattern: → Older, review-rich profiles get treated like gold. If your profile is 2+ years old and has 150+ reviews, you can switch from service area to physical location and you’ll often get verified instantly. → Newer profiles are fragile. If you’re under 3 months old with only ~25 reviews, even small edits like changing business hours can trigger suspensions. Lesson: Trust with Google isn’t built overnight. It’s earned through time + volume + consistency.

@tannerdripjobs I mean he has a point. Why would a good operator buy his business when they could start from scratch with significantly less money and just sub work to this guy and his crew.

I had the worst conversation with a painting contractor yesterday who's been painting for four years. I tried to sell him on DripJobs after he told me that he was using pen and paper for everything, but that's not the worst part. The worst part is everything that I told him went right over his head because he was so stuck on blaming everyone for everything. He said he couldn't find good reliable helpers and no one wants to work. He said that no one wants to spend money on a quality paint job anymore, they just want the cheapest prices from illegal labor. He said, and this was the worst part, after I told him that my father was a journeyman painter for many years and his legs and hands started deteriorating, that his business had some value and he should consider preparing to sell it even if he's not ready yet...he flat out told me that his business was worth nothing. But what I uncovered was super surprising: he keeps himself busy and 4 others with word of mouth and word of mouth only. And he saw no value in that! "Your brand is worth something!" I told him. He asked me, "What is my "brand" even worth? Who would buy this? What am I even selling?" I gave him some pointers: 1. It's worth something and it's valuable to someone else if you're getting word of mouth leads every single day or month that are keeping your business busy. 2. Your name. You've been in business for 40 years! You'd be surprised how many people have your number saved or know your name. All you need to do is make a few tweaks and you could position yourself for a couple hundred thousand dollar exit. I gave him the following advice: 1. You need a CRM. Of course, I recommended @dripjobs, but imagine if he had a CRM for the last 10 or 15 years, how many contacts he'd have saved for the new potential buyer. 2. I told him that he needs to get a cloud-based phone number that he can transfer, and it would be in his best interest to take his personal phone number and make it the permanent business phone number, because that's the number that most people have saved. 3. I told him he's having trouble finding business because he's not spending any money on marketing. It's an investment, and many people struggle with the idea that they have to pay something in order to get something else of greater value. I thought he was listening the whole time. Unfortunately, after that, he hung up on me.

It’s no surprise that everybody hates their home warranty provider. As a contractor - we refuse to work for them. Why? Their singular objective is to collect homeowner premiums, and pay out as little as possible in claims. To this end, they hire the cheapest contractors who are instructed to find the lowest cost solution (not the best solution) to your problem. Which means poorly trained, poorly compensated, and poorly equipped trades people will be handling your warranty claim. If you are a contractor, run from this type of work. If you are a homeowner: find a trustworthy, high-quality contractor and hire them directly.
