Facts About Texas
Facts About Texas@FactsAboutTexas·
If you grew up in Dallas, this one is going to stop you cold. Baby Doe’s Matchless Mine. Sitting on the highest point in Dallas — right on Harry Hines behind that famous waterfall billboard — overlooking I-35 and downtown. You walked through an entrance built like a real mineshaft, past rusting mining equipment and narrow gauge rail cars, into a dimly lit dining room that felt like you’d descended into the earth. It was unlike anything else in Texas. From 1976 until it closed in 2005, generations of Dallas families celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, prom nights, and special occasions in that old mine on Goat Hill. Then it was demolished. And just like that — it was gone. Some places you don’t realize you’ll miss until they’re already gone. 🤠🪨

Good morning! It'll be another comfortable May day with temps about normal for this time of the year. Clear skies and light winds are expected all day. The morning starts in the 60s with highs climbing to near 83 for DFW. #wfaaweather

Warmer weather on the way! A combination of breezy south winds late week and a strong heat dome (currently to the west) slides over just a bit to help temps climb. It'll be slightly cooler early next week with our next cold front. #wfaaweather

The severe weather threat is over for North Texas tonight. Rain will continue for a few more hours, but it's on the way out of our area.

The metroplex has dropped down to a level 2 slight risk for seeing severe storms later today. The enhanced risk continues to be shifted farther south and west as the latest data coming in keeps the highest potential for larger hail and damaging wind in our SW counties. #txwx

A proud father moment. Lots of tears and pride watching our youngest graduate from Georgia Tech today with a degree in industrial design. Can't wait to see what she does next! ❤️❤️🥰🥰

SCOOP In an unearthed video, Senator Cornyn’s team forgot to delete a video from YouTube where Cornyn advocates for amnesty for illegal aliens. It would be a shame if every Republican in Texas sees this before the May 26th runoff. No amnesty!

you read orwell as a cautionary tale. the media read it as a "how to" manual. you think you distrust them enough. you don't. “the past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth.”

On May 6, 1937, the world watched one of history’s most shocking disasters unfold in the skies over New Jersey. The German airship Hindenburg, then the largest aircraft ever built, burst into flames while attempting to land at Naval Air Station Lakehurst. Of the 97 people on board, 35 lost their lives, along with one crew member on the ground. What made the disaster unforgettable was that it unfolded in front of cameras and live radio microphones. Reporter Herbert Morrison’s emotional cry, “Oh, the humanity!” became one of the most famous broadcasts in history. And nearly 90 years later, people still debate what actually caused the fire. Some of the theories include: A static electricity spark igniting leaking hydrogen during the landing process. Damage to the airship’s outer skin causing highly flammable hydrogen to escape. Claims of sabotage, though no evidence ever conclusively proved it. Long-running speculation that the airship’s coating materials contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. The Hindenburg crash marked the dramatic end of the passenger airship era.
