@nomalyzed @ruffydfire Tell us what should be done now to ameliorate the present economic hardship and hunger in the country?
English

If you list the first 20 most pressing Nigeria's critical infrastructure needs from the highest to the lowest priorities. I do not think that the badagary-sokoto and lagos-calabar road projects will make the list.
Let's even assume that these road projects are completed this month April 2026. How does it ameliorate the present economic hardship and hunger in the country?
English

We tracked the Sokoto Badagry Super-Highway from both ends this month, the Lagos axis and Sokoto axis.
On the Lagos end, the project is currently within Ogun State, stretching from Diya Gate, OPIC Estate, Agbara to Iyana Idoye, Lusada. Sparse work was observed at Odugbe in Lusada, Ado Odo/Ota LGA. The project terminated at Phase 4, Atan with only one side of the road under construction by Hitech Construction Company Limited.
At the Sokoto end in Illela LGA, work was ongoing, bush clearing, sand filling, and site preparation. On the section towards Katami, Silame LGA, Sokoto and in Kebbi State, some portions have been completed with concrete paving and solar lighting installed. Progress is uneven and slow.
Now here is what has been committed on paper, FEC has approved contracts worth N2.36tn for the highway since 2024, (N947bn for Kebbi single carriageway in August 2024, N456bn for Sokoto 120km section in October 2024 flagoff and N961bn for Kebbi second carriageway for August 2025).
Just 3 days ago, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a fresh request to the Senate for a $516.3m loan from Deutsche Bank, the largest single external injection into this project yet.
But the Minister of Works, Senator Engineer David Nweze Umahi, CON admitted in February 2026 that only N210.31bn, 9.7% of expected 2025 capital releases have actually been paid to contractors. Contractors across FMWNG projects are owed N2.2tn for advanced work. Commitments on paper.
The total cost of this 1,068km highway alone is projected at over
N6.5tn, borrowed money, at a time when Nigeria already spends substantial part of her total revenue servicing existing debt.
We urgently call on the Federal Government of Nigeria and National Assembly to;
- Properly scrutinize every new loan.
- Release funds owed to contractors.
- Publish quarterly disbursement reports for this highway.
- Scrutinise the $516.3m Deutsche Bank loan terms transparently.
Citizens deserve infrastructure and fiscal accountability, not one without the other.

@thecableng Sir, niger didn't play any major role during the civil war.

Obasanjo: Without Niger Republic, it would have been difficult for Nigeria to win civil war
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria would probably not have won the civil war without support from neighbouring Niger Republic.
Speaking as a guest on ‘Soni Irabor Live’ which aired on News Central, Obasanjo said during the war, Nigeria received materials through Niger Republic for Nigerian troops.

@raheem_tola @Elohozynno @NigBarAssoc Is the defendant not a politician?
He took his presidential campaign to the courtroom.
English

@Elohozynno @NigBarAssoc You comparing a litigant who has business in court by virtue of him being an accused with politicians using a courtroom for political campaign?
Isn't it too early to be reasoning like this?

THE COURT SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A STAGE FOR MEDIA BRIEFING
Courtrooms in a constitutional democracy are open to the public not as arenas for performance, but as sanctuaries for the orderly administration of justice. Their openness promotes transparency and public confidence, yet it also imposes a duty of restraint on all who enter. Access to the courtroom is therefore a right exercised within boundaries of decorum, discipline, and respect for judicial authority. The courtroom exists solely for adjudication, and its openness cannot be stretched to permit activities unrelated to that purpose.
It is against this background that the Nigerian Bar Association views with grave concern the incident involving Mr. Omoyele Sowore @sowore, yesterday March 24th, 2026, at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Mr. Sowore entered the courtroom accompanied by a number of individuals carrying camera phones and recording equipment. He proceeded to set up what appeared to be preparations for a press conference within the courtroom itself. Members of his team attended to him, fanning his face and tidying his appearance in a manner akin to a broadcast setting.
He subsequently moved into the inner bar, sat on one of the tables, and, as cameras were directed at him, began addressing what he described as “a range of national issues.” Notably, Mr. Sowore’s case was not listed for hearing, and he was not accompanied by any legal practitioner during this episode. The development led to tension within the courtroom and a confrontation with learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, who objected to the conduct and insisted on maintaining courtroom decorum.
Courtrooms are solemn spaces dedicated to the administration of justice. Any conduct that undermines the dignity of the court, intimidates legal practitioners, or disrupts proceedings constitutes a grave affront to the rule of law. The use of a courtroom as a venue for publicity, advocacy theatrics, or confrontation is unacceptable and inconsistent with the discipline required in judicial proceedings.
While every Nigerian, including Mr. Sowore, is entitled to attend and observe court proceedings, such right must be exercised responsibly and with due regard to courtroom decorum. Public access to the courts does not extend to converting the courtroom into a platform for press briefings or actions capable of undermining the dignity and authority of the court, whether or not the court is in session.
The NBA therefore condemns Mr. Sowore’s disruption of the courtroom environment and expresses solidarity with Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, and all lawyers who insisted on maintaining decorum. We also call on court authorities to ensure that courtrooms remain protected spaces for the orderly administration of justice and free from acts capable of intimidating legal practitioners in the discharge of their professional duties.
The NBA will continue to defend the dignity of the legal profession and the sanctity of judicial proceedings. The courtroom must remain a place of order, respect, disciplined advocacy, and responsible public access, not spectacle, confrontation, or disorder.
Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN
President, Nigerian Bar Association

Farewell to a True Servant of the People
Yesterday, we were in Nsukka, Enugu State, for the funeral of one of the most remarkable personalities I met in politics, Distinguished Senator Okechukwu Cleophas Ezea. From the day I met him and throughout our political journey together, he remained deeply committed to the welfare of the people, especially the people of Nsukka.
If you gave him a sachet of pure water, he would always ask, “Where is the one for the people of Nsukka? Where is the one for humanity?” I was pleased that the Bishop of the Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Igwebuike Ona, in his homily, said the same thing — that Senator Ezea would often tell him he wanted peace, progress, and unity in his senatorial zone, and that if not being a senator would help achieve that, he was ready to step aside.
May God Almighty, who has called him home, grant him eternal rest, comfort his family, and all of us who mourn him, and most importantly, inspire his people with his legacy to continue representing the good people of Nsukka. -PO
