@martinvars Britain first settled the Islands back in 1765 before Argentina even existed as a country. And you describe the Islanders as being transplanted, just like the majority of the Argentine population then!

The United Kingdom loves to invoke international law and the UN Charter when criticizing the US-led strikes on Iran in 2026, yet it conveniently ignores the same rules when the UN itself has repeatedly declared that the Malvinas/Falklands constitute a colonial situation requiring a negotiated solution. General Assembly Resolution 2065 (1965) and the latest C24 decolonization committee resolution from June 2025 explicitly recognize the sovereignty dispute between Argentina and the UK and call for bilateral negotiations to resolve it peacefully, bearing in mind the interests (not the veto power) of the inhabitants. Self-determination does not apply here because the current population consists of British settlers transplanted after Britain illegally expelled Argentine authorities by force in 1833, a classic case of colonial dismemberment where territorial integrity prevails—as the ICJ affirmed in the 2019 Chagos opinion. Argentina has never renounced its legitimate inheritance from Spain under uti possidetis juris, and it continues to offer dialogue, as Argentina's Foreign Minister did just yesterday. Britain’s refusal to even discuss sovereignty while lecturing others on the “rules-based order” is pure hypocrisy: either the UN process and international law matter, or they don’t.

In non-FA Cup news, Saints need to beat Ipswich and Preston and hope Millwall and Ipswich draw or lose against Oxford and QPR on the final day to finish in the top two. It's not off, that's for sure. #SaintsFC

@ADachary The Islands were actually first spotted by Capt John Strong in 1590. Going by your argument that Spain had them first a brief time shouldn't the other former colonies belong to Argentina as well?

@LondonSaint Spain discovered the Malvinas Islands in 1520. When Argentina gained independence, it inherited the territories that previously belonged to this country, it's simple.

@WatcherontheWeb The Falklands are defended by a sqd of Typhoons, radar, anti aircraft battery, around 1400 mil personnel. The UN enshrined the right to self determination so that ends any discussion. The Falkland Islands aren't British, they're not Argentine they belong to the Islanders.

The Falklands: In a very similar way to how I felt about Ukraine before the war, I believe they are British and should be left alone But I also believe if the nation who they rightfully belong to has neglected it's defense to the point they can no longer defend their claim, then it is natural for it to be taken by another nation who CAN assert their claim And I'm not really going to shed a tear over it, as we warned the British for decades this would be the result and they laughed in our face and mocked us for it 🤷‍♂️ piss up a rope, limeys

This moron is more concerned about the Falkland’s than he is with Britain. London has become Londonistan, women are being raped, Englanders have lost their freedom of speech, and this pompous, overexposed clown is worried about some sheep on a rock. Brit’s, what do you think? Is it over or is there a chance?
Piers Morgan@piersmorgan

If President Trump wants to take the Falkland Islands away from Britain, then we must reclaim the United States. Perfect way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence. King Charles can announce it to Congress next week.

@HaroldWren22 The British claim to the Falklands has nothing to do with empire it's based on the right of self determination, enshrined by the UN. The population expressed their democratic will back in 2013.

@ianmiles @JMilei It really wouldn't. We have radar so we'd them coming, we have a squadron of typhoons, anti aircraft battery, 1400 military personnel. And Argentina gave what exactly? I'll gladly teach you about the history as well if you want. Argentina's sole claim is based on Spain!

The funniest thing about the Falklands is that if @JMilei were to retake them for Argentina, as is his right, is that Britain has no seaworthy navy to even mount a response. It would be a bloodless coup and everyone living there can go back to England on a plane.

Some thoughts on the Falklands story: 1. This is just one anonymous “US official” threatening to upend decades of US policy over the Falklands. This is not actual US policy and I suspect this is a distinctly minority view within the Executive Branch. 2. The President and The White House ultimately sets US policy, as was clearly demonstrated recently over the Chagos surrender deal, which Trump strongly condemned and ultimately torpedoed. 3. Keir Starmer is deeply unpopular within the Trump Administration and is increasingly viewed as a treacherous lame duck PM. There remains however tremendous goodwill towards the British people and optimism that the Special Relationship will be rebuilt when Starmer and eventually Labour are thrown out of office. 4. President Trump is the most pro-British US President since Reagan. It is highly unfortunate that his UK counterpart happens to be the weakest PM of the modern era, who also likes to play the anti-American card. 5. Donald Trump is a big admirer of both Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher, both of whom are revered by American conservatives. The President would not do anything to undermine the memory of the Iron Lady, whose greatest defining achievement is viewed by many as the liberation of the Falklands against all odds in 1982.

SCOOP! Internal Pentagon email details options to punish NATO allies who the US believes failed to support it in Iran war operations. Will post a link to my story later but US official says the options include:     * Suspending Spain from NATO alliance.     * Reassessing US diplomatic support for European "imperial possessions," to include Britain's claim to the Falkland Islands near Argentina     * Suspending "difficult" countries from important or prestigious positions at NATO     * No option to close U.S. bases in the email     * No option for withdrawing U.S. from the alliance in the email
