Option 2: Escalating military tensions Any attempt to forcibly open the Strait of Hormuz or attack Iran's main infrastructure could lead to a full-blown regional war. This option would push oil prices above $150, bring global stock markets to the brink of collapse, and entangle the US in a quagmire much larger than Iraq and Afghanistan. Option 3: Continuing the status quo If he does nothing and waits, high energy prices and the resulting inflation (gasoline at $6 in the US) will push the global economy into recession. In this scenario, Iran will continue its unofficial exports, and Trump's standing in domestic polls will fall even further.
