💯 agree. It's FAR WORSE than PPI. The mis-selling element is shocking. @mtpennycook has 2 damning reports on his desk, but has taken no action. There is a select committee report and a NAO report; their conclusions are unequivocal. The Govt has chosen to abandon shared owners.

@NLC_2019 @IzzyAron @theipaper @SharedOwnersNet @ResourcesShared @mhclg Oh it's so much worse than PPI car finance, it's people's life-savings. I don't think the collective impact can be overestimated

@SteveReedMP "Speeding up remediation" when the government still allows developers to mark their homework and decide on scope and pace? Get a grip.

Increasing long-term investment in social housing. Speeding up remediation to make buildings safer. Making things fairer for millions of leaseholders. Transferring power out of Westminster. Protecting our democracy. This government is delivering for the public.

@SteveReedMP Making things fairer? My freeholder sold its commercial interest to another freeholder in a bid to escape responsibility for important fire safety work. My new freeholder has doubled my ground rent from this Jan.

Rafael Ghisleni went from owning his own South London flat and business to sleeping on night buses and the Tube. It all started with lockdown and the discovery of flammable cladding on his block of flats. Story by @RubyLGregory mylondon.news/news/south-lon…

@proptechpioneer @alexgroundwater For London this is connected to the building safety crisis and leasehold. Make flats safe, build them well, have good management, reasonable maintenance costs and abolish leasehold and people will want to live in them again. The issues with current stock do affect new build.

Whether its transforming London's air quality, raising council home building to its highest level since the 1970s, or getting the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street underway, @SadiqKhan has delivered major achievements over the last decade. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

There are positive signs that under new leadership the Building Safety Regulator is being turned around. I saw an example of this when I visited London Square’s Stratford Cross site with the BSR’s Operations Director, which received swift approval at Gateway 2 and is underway.

Action on Empty Homes @emptyhomes
The Resolution Foundation are essentially suggesting a new Help to Buy scheme (equity loans for deposits).. what could possibly go wrong?! Yet greatest housing need is for access to affordable rented homes - provide these and those wanting to buy can afford to save for deposits.
Resolution Foundation@resfoundation

As homeownership pulls increasingly out of reach for lower income households, Hannah Aldridge proposes a policy that could help first time buyers get a mortgage, without increasing house prices. Read more here ⤵️ buff.ly/gI9CpHu

We shared the frustration felt by many shared owners, including delays in accessing fire safety documents, slow progress on remediation, and a lack of clear information throughout the process.

@LostInSW19 @MrCladding @mtpennycook @SamanthaDixonMP I had a roof leak, never fixed despite 100s of repair visits. I kept asking for more repairs - I was told it’s costing too much! I asked for a cost breakdown, and was told I could have it IF I paid an admin fee. I’ve also asked for a breakdown on my service charge, yes for a fee!

Despite paying record levels of rent and service charge to L&Q, I don't get information about what's going on. My only source of information is neighbours in our block's WhatsApp group. @mtpennycook @SamanthaDixonMP when will you hold these social landlords to account?

@financial_shaw It would be sensible and is what happens in other countries with a well-functioning buying and selling market.

It needs to be the case that when someone makes an offer if it’s accepted by the seller they automatically put down £5k minimum such that if their home doesn’t sell, they can’t proceed, or decide to pull out they lose £5k for fucking about.

We need government-backed buybacks for shared ownership flats that are unmortgageable or unsellable. These homes could be converted to social or affordable rent, helping meet local housing need while freeing trapped leaseholders. Where is the leadership @stevereedMP?

It was a disappointing meeting. This government is still refusing to tackle the core issues trapping shared owners in the building safety crisis. 🧵
End Our Cladding Scandal@EOCS_Official

Today we met with @SamanthaDixonMP ahead of tomorrow’s King’s Speech. The Remediation Bill is simply too little, too late. It won't make homes safe, protect leaseholders or speed up remediation any time soon. Labour is still failing to get a grip on the building safety crisis.
