The cancer won. My aunt has died. While she is free from her suffering, the world feels a bit darker for the rest of us. I hate cancer. Pancreatic cancer is especially wicked. She went from fine to gone so fast. Hold your loved ones close. Call that relative you miss. 🖕🏼 cancer

@xKonaPearl No, levels are quite flat nationally. Just a more granular map. CDC should have made this years ago. We live in such embarrassing times.

@Sabiha1278 Have you seen a vet? If not I definitely would do lab work to rule out anything serious.

Looking for a bit of advice from experienced cat owners. I adopted a 3-year-old cat on Tuesday 19th May, and she still hasn't really eaten properly. She has had a few Dreamies treats (both the crunchy and creamy ones) and a Lick-e-Lix, but she isn't interested in any of the actual cat food I've offered her. What's confusing me is that she seems completely normal otherwise. She's rubbing up against me and the furniture, purring, letting me stroke her, and even letting me pick her up. She doesn't seem scared or withdrawn. Her previous owner did mention that she's overweight (which she is), and she was rehomed because she wasn't getting on with the other cats in the household. I'm wondering if the move and change in environment could just be affecting her appetite. I've bought a few different foods for her to try, both wet and dry, and I've also got a calming diffuser plugged in. At the moment I've put her food under the bed because that's where she seems to feel safest and spends most of her time. I know moving to a new home can be stressful for cats, but I'm starting to worry about the lack of eating. Has anyone experienced this with a newly adopted cat? How long did it take for yours to start eating normally, and is there anything else you'd recommend trying? Thanks in advance 🙏🩷

One of the feral cats outside looks injured and very ill. Large open wounds where he was bitten by a fox. It does not seem possible for me to get him into a crate and take him to a vet, although I would like to. And I don't have much money. It's very sad. Does anyone have some advice or comfort to offer?

@Sabiha1278 Is there any way you can get her to a vet or have one come to your house to do lab work? It’s so difficult when they’re hesitant to come near you. I’ve been there. 😟

So we moved into a new house about a month ago. This cat has stayed on our porch the entire time, even before we moved in she was there. She has a collar on, it's almost too small, and her ear is clipped so she's been fixed. My husband was working on the house for months prior to moving in. He kept dry food and water for her on the porch and built her a shelter with straw when it was really cold. When we first noticed her she was extremely thin, had so much hair loss from fleas I'm assuming. In the last month we've been able to get flea meds on her. She's not super friendly, very timid. So it took a few weeks to be able to get that close. We treated the porch and yard with DE She's looking much better, but she still has some really bad spots that look raw from her licking or scratching, like under her chin and the inside of her back legs. She's also still very thin even though she has access to food 24/7. She's maybe gained a little weight but is still thin compared to my inside cats. I've been trying to spray her spots with an antiseptic and anti fungal spray. She isn't a fan, and since she's a little feral getting close is hard, but she looks so uncomfortable. I'd also like to deworm her....I truly don't believe she belongs to anyone but she does have that tiny collar on....is it acceptable to give her medicine without permission? I was going to ask my vet for some dewormer when I take my dog for his yearly. Does anyone know how I could treat her hairless spots with sores? I've been calling her Cinnabun.

If the owner of a cat died, will the cat know, or will the cat think her owner left her and escaped? In both situations, how will the cat feel?

Oh Lordy, wish me luck, y’all! For months, I’ve been trying to get close to a feral cat from a neighborhood 15 minutes away. He’s in rough shape—his ears are a mess, he’s losing fur, and you can tell he’s worn out. Just before I went on vacation, he let me touch him for a single second. This past week, I’ve been visiting him every day, just talking to him. Yesterday, he surprised me—he rubbed against my leg and let me give him another quick pat. So today, I brought a carrier. My sister has been trying to trap him for a while, but I honestly had no plan to catch him this morning. That is… until he let me pat him again. I put the carrier by a tree, dashed to my sister’s for some chicken, and made a little trail of pieces leading inside. When his head went in—🙀—I went for it! He was not happy, but we got him. Now, with antibiotics, ear medicine inside and out, and steady healthy meals, I know he’ll heal. Then, I’ll get him neutered. I’ve named him Tommy—he looks just like my big red. I can’t wait for him to feel better. This is how I measure my wealth: by helping animals. 😻

Had to say goodbye to my beautiful boy on Saturday. He was acting off for a day or 2 prior so I took him in to work (I’m a vet tech). Sure enough he had a giant mass in his abdomen. He was almost 16 and I didn’t want to put him through an extensive surgery or try meds that would just be a bandaid. So I made the difficult decision to let him go peacefully. We took him outside to pass in the sunny fresh air. He was born on a farm so I assume he was born outside. I figured it would be fitting for him to leave the same way he came in. I miss him terribly. RIP Morris.

I trapped my first feral cat in my life… And had her spay surgery on Wednesday… ❤️🎉 The clinic people said… She is about 4 months old… And I should release her the day after the surgery… 💔 But I haven’t released her outside yet… 😢 Because my heart feels very guilty… She is still very small… And she lets me pet her… 🐱🤍 That’s why this thought keeps coming to my mind… “Should I try to socialize her…?” 🥺 But she is very scared of me… She hides in every corner of the bathroom… Where we have temporarily kept her… 💔 I know… Maybe releasing her is the best decision… But just thinking about it breaks my heart… That she won’t get the safety… Warmth… And love… That an indoor cat gets… 😭🐾 I just want to make the right decision for her… ❤️ If anyone has ever had this experience… Please give advice… 🤍

Day 23 How did you fall in love with baseball? The short answer? I grew up in it. All of my older siblings played, so baseball was always part of my life, and from the very beginning, I wanted to be just like them. I started playing when I was 4 years old and never looked back. By the age of 8, I was already playing competitively. Some of my favorite memories were made during those long tournament weekends at the ballpark — covered in dirt, usually sunburnt, and having the absolute time of my life. As I got older, baseball became even more than just a sport to me. During my teenage years, nights at Kauffman Stadium watching the Royals became the go-to hangout spot for my friends and me. There was just something special about being at the K watching our heroes. What I never could have imagined was how much deeper my love for the game would grow after my ALS diagnosis. The Royals organization has completely wrapped their arms around me throughout this journey. They have supported me, encouraged me, and truly lifted me up during some of the hardest moments of my life. They’ve made all of my baseball dreams come true. You’ve probably heard me call the K my happy place, and it truly is. So many of my most cherished memories over the past eight years have happened there. From the moment we pull into the parking lot until the moment we leave, I’m surrounded by kindness — from the staff, the players, and even fellow Royals fans. It’s hard to explain just how much that means to someone living with ALS. For a few hours, baseball gives me something invaluable: the chance to simply be a fan again. Not a patient. Not a diagnosis. Just someone enjoying the game they’ve loved their entire life. And that’s what makes baseball so special to me. It has always been a part of my story, but during this fight with ALS, it has also become a source of comfort, joy, community, and hope. #AlwaysRoyal #ALS #SarahsSoldiers #FightLikeAGirl

@LotInLifeProd @Jankersville @Martina So true. We only travel by train or ship since 1984. No planes. For one thing. Also helpful, we didn’t have children. And we hardly buy anything new! My car is a 2006. I had one car from 1982, to 2022. It had 70,000 mi on it… but too much rust in the end. We try.

BA.3.2 is such a creeper. Here are the wastewater detections from roughly the last month. It's still mostly in the Northeast. I hope this data source doesn't go away, but I'm afraid it probably will.

Let’s math the math. Youngest of family with 11 children. Add in mom and dad, that makes 13 in the nuclear family. There was the loss of 3, dad and ‘closest’ two brothers. That makes for a remaining family of 10. Yet, somehow, only the two, mom and Stephan were left to ‘lean’ on one another. That happened to other 8 family members. Were they all slackers or what? Cut me a break with this load of BS.

On September 11, 1974, a ten-year-old boy named Stephen Colbert lost his father and two of his closest brothers, Paul and Peter, when Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 crashed into a cornfield hillside just three miles from the Charlotte, North Carolina airport. Only 13 of the 82 people on board survived. In a single afternoon, the youngest of eleven children in a warm, intellectually curious Catholic household went from a boy surrounded by laughter and big family energy to a kid sitting in a suddenly very quiet, very dark home with only his grieving mother for company. The two leaned on each other in a way that most people never experience. Lorna Colbert held herself together not out of bitterness, but out of a fierce, quiet love, and Stephen watched that and absorbed it into his bones. He later said his mother was never bitter, just broken, and that her example became the blueprint he carried for the rest of his life. For years, though, the real weight of the loss stayed buried. He floated through prep school detached, unbothered by the things other kids cared about, because nothing felt quite real anymore. It wasn't until he went off to Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia that the grief finally cracked through, and it hit him hard. He dropped from 185 pounds down to 135 during his freshman year, barely eating, barely functioning, consumed by a sadness he had held at bay for nearly a decade. But something remarkable happened on the other side of that collapse. He found theater. He found improvisation. He found that making people laugh was actually a way to connect with human suffering rather than run from it. He transferred to Northwestern University, stumbled into the world of Second City, and slowly built himself into one of the most empathetic, genuinely funny voices in American media. He later reflected that losing his father and brothers gave him an awareness of other people's pain that allowed him to love more deeply and connect more honestly with what it means to be human. That is not a small thing. That is everything. Via Chronicles Through Lenses
